Cabinas Algebra — Hotel in Cahuita

Wonderful place. I stayed in one of the property's cabins with a friend. We were there during the off season, so it rained just about every day. But that's okay because that's why Costa Rica and the grounds of Cabinas Algebra are so verdant. Yes, Cabinas Algebra is a 20- or 30-minute walk to the village of Cahuita but it's a great walk alongside the beach and lots of nature. ||||Andrea is very conscientious host and puts a lot of energy into making sure guests are comfortable. I liked being able to wander into the reception area (beautifully-designed, btw, with an octagonal-shaped veranda surrounded by trees) and ask for a fruit bowl at nine in the evening--and have exactly what I wanted set in front of me within minutes.||||If you don't need a lot of action and social life, this is a good choice. I'm a writer and spent many happy hours sipping tea on the veranda of my cabin. It was small (just enough room for two people) but had a huge tiled bathroom. A real joy to work in silence and hear only birds, geckos and the occasional pair of agoutis (rabbits) leaping from the underbrush. And heaven is the hammocks Andrea has strung up in front of...

I can't find a separate page for the restaurant but wanted to post a review as we had such a nice experience. We stayed nearby and came to eat at Restaurante Bananas for dinner. The food was fresh and tasty with amazing local vegetables. The owner came out to talk to us about the different vegetables in the dishes as we were so intrigued about what some of them were and when she heard that we were really hoping to see a sloth while in Costa Rica but hadn't yet seen any on our walks, she invited us to come see two sloths in her garden the next morning (they were adorable!!). We Love coming here!! The cabins are great and you feel like you are living with nature. Andrea meets you with a cool drink upon your arrival and she and her Son Samuel, are such wonderful people and fabulous hosts. We return year after year. My husband is a wonderful cook, but we find ourselves at the restaurant partaking in Andrea's culinary delights. We have had everything on her menu and tried her new addition of ravioli, all are heavenly.
