Alberto was super! We were glad to support a family owned business. He sent me a personal video of where to park and how to get to my room when he could not greet me in person. We chatted everyday and learned a lot about the area and his family. Thank you Alberto for your kindness and hospitality! We asked about snorkeling tours and he booked us with a friend’s tour that was great.
The pool and grounds are beautiful and you can hear the howler monkeys in the trees. it was a short walk to a beach just across the street that you have all to yourself.
We loved staying in Cahuita rather than Puerto Viejo! Such a perfect small town and the national park entrance is right in town. We also loved the location of this hotel on the road by the beach - you can walk or drive to the town of Cahuita and there many beaches, sodas, and small cabinas along the way. We ate 2 dinners and one breakfast here and they were all delicious! We walked down the road just a few steps to Bananas ( also fabulous food!) for another dinner and it was great to not need to drive into town after dark to eat at night. The room has a small fridge and there is a shared kitchen area available if you need a microwave or want to prepare a simple meal. One evening, we ordered a pizza from the on site restaurant and we ate it on our porch.
My only complaint was that the room was dark. It rained every night we were there and the rain was noisy on the tin roof at night because there is no insulation and it woke me up, but it was also beautiful to watch and listen to the rain from the porch area.
We had a wonderful stay and stayed an extra night because the area was so...
Read moreMy wife and I spent most our time in the more central mountainous region, but was recommended to at least spend couple of days on the beach. First time in CR and not knowing what to expect... it was quaint. All of the “hotels” in this area are more like motels. The Coconut has a cute little pool and the rooms are decent! ||The beach experience was a bit different because we arrived post flooding due to a month of rain, so the nice tables and chairs by the beach were all ruined. We were able to carry a couple of lounge chairs by the pool to the beach and so that was nice. We essentially had the entire beach to ourselves. ||I think the Cahuita region is more for younger backpackers who don’t mind roughing it a bit. If you lean towards more of an All-Inclusive style of convenience and comfort, this side of CR isn’t it. The nature is beautiful, but that’s what you come here for. ||From the Coconut, it’s about a 5min taxi ride to “downtown” Cahuita for restaurants, shops, pharmacy, and bank. ||Overall we enjoyed our stay and the in-house food was delicious. I would have rated it higher if we would have been able to enjoy their full beach side offerings, but sadly we couldn’t and it’s not...
Read more10 star hotel. Room has everything you need, hot water and a.c, comfy bed. Beach access is only a nice 1 minute walk through beautiful biology. The black sand beach is so quiet. I swam completley nude in the ocean for 2 days and saw no one else. The waves were very consistent and a little rough, but still nice. The owner was extremley helpful. When we arrived on a tuk tuk from puerto viejo we didnt have colones cash, only card, and the owner spotted us the cash! Although a 40 minute walk to cahuita down town center, there is a small restaruant called bananas only 5 minute walk for breakfast and dinner. Sylvio gave us a phone number for a sweet taxi driver named alejandro who gave us rides into town for shopping and live music whenever we needed. The owner is a passionate pizza chef and happily made us pizza during our stay. We showed him how to make vegan cheese and now vegan pizza is on the menu. He will be reopening the restaraunt later this year, but guests can look foward to vip hospitality anytime. Highly recommend this private, low key experience. Great value...
