We booked our stay in Torteguero to relax after an epic hiking trip and this property was perfect for us. The hotel appears to have had recent renovations and the kind maintenance was busy in it's upkeep each day. Although this property is located right near the main dock in town you can barely see it as there are gardens surrounding that are mature and impeccable, you can tell lots of love goes into their care. The front desk was helpful and friendly if you had any requests. This hotel appears to offer small cabins as well as hotel rooms. We had a fairly basic hotel room on the ground floor, with patio chairs, our room had air-con, was freshly painted and kept very clean by the maid staff here each day, complete with creative towel art. No t.v here (we did not want or need one) Shower Tip: As in most places in Costa Rica, you need to select a lower pressure in order to have a warmer shower, if you do that you will find the hot water is perfect! ||We enjoyed being in town so we could have a locals feel and walk to dinners out along the canal. We also took walks down the beach (to the left, which made a nice 8 mile round trip, a great workout in the soft sand.) We dipped in the ocean but the waves and rip tides are truly too rough, I do not suggest swimming here. We swam and sat by the cute small hotel pool in a garden setting, which was relaxing, you also can sit in lounger chairs facing the sandy beach in the rear of the property and birdwatch here. Breakfast included each day was tasty and typical costa rica eggs and pinto available, several days we even had ham and cheese omelets and always had unlimited coffee which was great. I was usually full until dinner. If looking for a more chill comfy vibe, this place checked all the boxes at a reasonable price in...
Read moreTortuguero Beachfront Hotel is a hidden gem. We stayed in a cottage. The beds were comfortable and the mini split kept the room at a perfect temperature. The room was immaculate when we came and no matter how much black sand we tracked in it was immaculately cleaned each day. Chris at the front desk speaks excellent English and answered all of our questions. The breakfast (included)each morning was either buffet or made to order. Pancakes, sausage, bread/toasted baguette, plaintains, peanut butter, fruit jellies, maple syrup, chocolate sauce, eggs and omelettes any way you wanted and fresh fruit watermelon and pineapple. Volio Costa Rican coffee and orange juice. Every morning was delightful. The breakfast staff was talented, cheerful and friendly. “El Gatto” the gardener and maintenance man was busy all day maintaining a jungle of beautiful trees, bushes and flowers. The diversity of plants attracted butterflies and birds everywhere. He kept the pool spotless and treated perfectly with Chlorine (never overwhelming like some pools). His work made the beauty of this gem memorable. The location although initially harder to find is central to everything. We visited the grocery store everyday 300 feet away. Cafe Budda across the main ‘street’ as was El Patio. Dorlings bakery is across the way from the grocery store. The Police station is across from the entrance. Tour companies are all along the street. Shops and sodas are everywhere and you simply have to try each place to find the tastes you love. Our stay at Tortuguero Beachfront was a 10 out of 10. The buildings, the landscaping, the staff all exceptional. We can’t wait to visit again!|I’m not sure how this wonderful place is listed so far down the list but for us it is the best. I...
Read moreWould love to leave zero stars. Truly awful hotel in every way. We paid for an air conditioned room since we come from a cooler climate, and the room they gave us initially was filled with ant hills on the ground. The managers exact terms to describe it were “an infestation” and we couldn’t sleep there. So he moved our group of four into two separate rooms, without air conditioning. They promised that the next day we would have 2 separate rooms with air conditioning for the inconvenience. The next day they moved us into the room beside our first one, only to find it was infested as well. I know it’s a jungle, but this was the hotel.
Lines on ants crawling on every wall, all over the floors and bed, the ant hills by door frames and the fact that the doors don’t fit the frames so all sorts of creatures can walk in at any time was real nice. Some were geckos, which we welcomed with open arms because they were our only hope in our battle against the ants.
After the first night my wife developed heat stroke due to the lack of air conditioning and the rest of our trip was ruined as she was puking the second day of our stay uncontrollably for 8 hours straight due to the heat. They refused to compensate us in any way as well, even though they admitted that it was out of control and they didn’t even live up to their initial promises of two rooms as compensation.
I have travelled a lot, to a lot of places in different countries but this has without a doubt been the worst hotel I have...
