KC Hotel • San José — Hotel in Mata Redonda

I stayed here for 7 days with my father. We both were having major dental surgery. So we got 2 rooms. The upside was the hotel seemed clean, housekeeping was cleaning the common areas 24/7. The pool is super warm and relaxing. The restaurant is a hit or miss. We each ordered dinner 1 was great! The other inedible, I think the meat had passed its expiration. The staff at the restaurant are phenomenally nice and try to accommodate you anyway they can.

The BAD Seems like the front desk staff do not like Americans. 1 gentleman down right rude. The 2 women smile to your face but roll their eyes, whisper and snicker when you turn around. I work in the service industry and am very easy to please, but there is no excuse to treat people poorly. Knowing I was having major dental surgery, they put me in the furthest room from the entrance and right next to the housekeeping area. I got no rest from the noise of them conversating loudly outside my door and constantly opening and slamming the door.

Everything is overpriced, and they try to get money out of you ANY way they can. The area is shady. Homeless people sleeping on the side walks. The side walks (if you want to call them that) are ridiculously dangerous and absolutely no street lights. The staff at the front desk have absolutely no empathy, character, or personality.

THERE ARE SO MANY BETTER OPTIONS AT...

KC Hotel is NOT honest and will take advantage of you!!! I had set up an airport taxi through KC Hotel, Miguel Guevara (Reservaciones y Ventas) told me the taxi would be $28 USD. When I arrived at KC Hotel I was charged 42400 CRC (colones) which equals $76 USD. I was extremely tired from traveling all day and was sick from parasite I pick up in Guatemala and so at the time I did not realize how much I was paying (I paid in colones) for the taxi. After checking I went straight to my room and went to sleep. Next day I hopped on a shuttle at 5:30am and when on the shuttle I realized I was WAY over charged so as soon as I had internet I emailed KC Hotel to let them know I was over charged. They told me they would look into it HA! They never did and I never got my money returned. This hotel is dishonest, will take advantage of you, lie and steal. I PROMISE you can find a better hotel in the area with nice staff who won't rip you off and take advantage of you. Trust me!! KC Hotel is a JOKE and I highly recommend you find a different Hotel to stay at!!!! ...

The room is depressing. A small window looking into a blind alley with airco units that hum all day. The room also smells like an aquarium. As if there isn't enough air circulation.

At midnight people stay at the lobby making fun, stealing your sleep, at 5:30 in the morning people are leaving and staff is helping them with walkie talkie, that gets you out of your sleep. Pura Vida is apparently about life, but not about sleep.

The breakfast is basic, but fresh, or so it seems. Coffee is included, espresso isn't. Breakfast hours is Pura Vida for staff as it starts at 8 and ends 10. 7 would be nicer as would be 10.30.

There's a lot of police doing their patrols IN the hotel with sniffer dogs. Why would that be?! Contrary to popular belief, I don't have the feeling of security, if police patrols the place 3 times a day.

The pool is nice. As are the stretchers.

The neighbourhood to the south is a no go area. I specifically asked if there are areas to avoid but this didn't come up.

I wouldn't recommend nor return...
