I had such a comfortable stay at Hotel Tropico. From the moment you arrive the staff and the owner, Jose, make you feel at home. I had dinner on the first night in the restaurant and Jose made sure to introduce himself and make sure we had all of our activities planned for the next day. Nancy and Cristal were both friendly and wonderful and really helped me when I needed a last minute taxi or when my tour didn't arrive. It was such a nice feeling to stay at a hotel so small that everyone knows who you are and cares about you.
The dinner I ate here was one of the best dinners I had in Monteverde, with a very unique menu. I had an early morning tour scheduled and they let me put in my breakfast order the night before and even came to breakfast early so I could make my tour. I enjoyed eating the to-order breakfast (I got a fruit place an an omelet with coffee and fresh juice).
Besides the incredible staff, the room was very comfortable, clean, and spacious. I liked that the hotel was a little outside the town so that it was quiet and calm. The only issue I had was that at night the wind can be very loud, but I got used to it and slept well. The location is great, and it's not difficult to walk to town (about 20min), but taking a quick taxi was often an easier option. The property is really nice and the views of the valley are breathtaking. I would stay here again in...
Read moreI cannot rave about this beautiful hotel enough. You pull in and right away your eye is caught by this 180° breath taking view of the most vibrant green valley and hills I have ever seen. In the morning when the sky is clear you can even see the ocean in the distance behind the valley. In the evenings as the sun is setting you can relax out by the homemade fireplace and take in the vibrant purple and pink sky. You walking into the beautifully hand crafted villas, by the owner jose, and instantly feel at home. They are spacious with plenty of seating to enjoy the veiws from inside the villa or even outside on your private deck. The ceilings have beautiful handcrafted woodwork that makes the villa even more inviting. The villas are very well taken care of. Jose, the most accomidating, friendly, kind hearted host I have ever met puts alot of time and effort into making his hotel feel like home for you and he did an amazing job. He is very passionate about all the work he puts into his second home. I would recommend this place to any one who is looking to stay in Monteverde you will not be dissapointed. Its in the best location as well, very private yet only about 5 minutes away from town. Muy muy hermosa. Thank you Jose for a wonderful visit...
Read moreJosé, the owner, has the warmth characteristic of the area. He was raised nearby and supporting a locally owned hotel feels great-especially because Hotel Tropico is an amazing property. ||Jose greeted us when we arrived and helped with our bags to the small, charming lobby (note Jose's choice of tile-gorgeous). Our room was large and had a wonderful view of the peninsula. Sunrises and sunsets were amazing. Words cannot describe. ||There were three breakfast options each day. We really enjoyed the coffee, fruit, and omelettes. Dinner was yummy every time we joined. I'm still thinking about the duck special with sweet potato. The cocktails were topnotch as well. ||The rainshower head was great. The bath products and lotion have a pleasant, light smell and are made with quality ingredients. ||It took about 20 minutes for us to walk downtown. We often did that to go to a cafe.||José arranged our transportation back to the airport. ||He made suggestions for lunch and things to do in the area. It's so helpful to have local suggestions that you won't come across on Tripadvisor or other sites. ||Book directly on the hotel website if you can as third party websites take a cut of profits.||Cannot wait to return to...
