La Sirena — Hotel in Parrita

Had high hopes coming in for lunch since the vibe is very rustic and there were many locals around but unfortunately this was the worst meal we had in our 2 weeks in Costa Rica. Ceviche didn't taste fresh, fish was rubbery and it lacked the usual sour & spicy kick. Seafood rice was dry and overcooked, lacked flavor. I ordered the fish filet, asked for it grilled but received their speciality "a la sirena" instead. Basically someone wrapped a piece of fish in aluminium foil and chucked it on the grill, then right at the end when it was almost done they topped it off with a slice of processed cheese (the plasticy kind you buy individually wrapped at the supermarket) and mushroom slices fresh from a can which didn't have time to cook (maybe better since this way the cheese was easier to remove). The bottom of the fish was charred and gave the whole thing a slightly burnt flavor. The result was dry and inedible. An amazing place, a Heaven on Earth! That's the best part of the world to be living in after these nightmarish years of pandemics and lockdowns! Just pure ocean's air, soft waves, seawater pools (surprizingly warm like hotsprings), bright sun, hammocks in shades, nice bar and great music nearby, rustling of palm trees' leafs, almost nobody around, only la Sirena listening to the evening concert of parrots and looking at the sunset, and then uncountable stars above Earth with moonlight path running across dark-silky sea waters, a moment of eternity, and breeze of joy,...

I stayed one night with my wife and some friends and the first thought when I saw the place was "I'm going to sleep in my car". The place is old and dirty. You can expect rooms with no a/c, cockroaches, bathrooms with poop on the toilet, mosquitoes...those are the things that I saw I had to change one light bulb because when I called the reception to tell them that one was not working they just gave me a new one for me to install, I know it's an easy job but come on! Never again, I'm sure there are other places within the same price range that are not...
