According to the other reviews, the location of the hotel is perfect, the view from the terasse is amazing, the garden is beautiful and the apartment is spotlessly clean. We enjoyed the dinner menu and the local 🍷 However, the 1st thing is the hospitality of the hosts. It is only our 1st evening here, but we're awaiting the next few days. Fourtunately we have spent 5 more days in this amazing place, so l can give few additions to the 1st impressions. The property is situated in a small coastal village called Zavala. The exact location of the hotel is on a steepy hill 2 minutes far from the sea. The buildings and facilities are within a beautiful garden: you walk among olive, pomegranate, lemon and orange trees. The accomodation and only-for-guests restaurant is only one part of the wide scale family run business: they are dealing with olive oil and wine production and boat service. The olive and wine come from their own  garden and vineyard. There are different sized and equipped apartments from 2 to 5 guests. The pool is well looking, clean and appropriate for having short swimms, it is encircled with a nice relaxing area, sunbeds, parasols and bar. The quality of breakfast buffet is exceptional, but it is superseded by the dinner menu: there is only one locally fashioned option, which was always perfect for us. You should try their plain dry red wine from the last year called Plavac Mali. We loved most of all the kindness and cordial, open-armed attitude of the whole staff. We are anticipating for coming back.

My stay here was one of the best experiences I've ever had. It is run by a local family who are the most welcoming and warming people I met in Croatia. From the second we arrived, to the second we left it was nothing but amazing. They get many people who return year after year and one of the reasons is due to the Mother of the house who cooks in the kitchen. The menu changes every night and it was the freshest meal we had in Croatia. The ambiance, the views, the rooms, the food - everything was 5/5. I cannot wait to go back and see Mateo and the rest of the family again.

Incredible mix of idyllic mediterranean landscape and high-level of hospitality. There are not many places as island of Hvar, Zavala village and Stella Mare hotel. The atmosphere is truly special, dreamy and relaxing. The infrastructure of this family-owned boutique hotel is modern and well maintained, the hospitality of the family that runs it is on top level, the place is a real paradise. Bravo to Grgicevic family and all hotel staff to establish beautiful example of Croatian tourism at its utmost value.

Our family of 4 - 2 adults and 2 teens - spent 3 nights here on a recent visit. We stayed in the Captain's residence which was a great size, with each of us having a bedroom. The inside of the room / apartment was lovely, with modern bathrooms and kitchen. But the huge draw for this place was the terrace with gorgeous views overlooking the ocean, and we didn't spend much time inside at all. ||We loved everything about our stay - the pool, the nearby rocky coastline where we could swim in the beautiful clear water. The small town of Zavala had a few restaurants, and overall it made for a very relaxing stay. Teo is an incredible host - he was a wealth of information, and had great suggestions for us along the way. He also arranged a private boat tour with Toby which was a highlight of our trip. Before we arrived, we thought we would explore either by renting a car or bikes, but after seeing the nearby roads, that are very narrow and hilly, we quickly realized that wasn't going to happen. But it didn't matter, as we wanted to spend our time relaxing by the pool or in the ocean. Also, Teo was able to help us get anywhere we wanted to go, and he had great suggestions of things to do as well. We spent one afternoon in Hvar town, which was nice, but we couldn't wait to get back to Stella Mare! We hope to come back sometime soon. Also, Teo's wine from the winery right there is the best we had...

We stayed here for a week in August and I cannot fault it in any way! Our family (2 adults and 3 children aged 19, 17 and 13) stayed in the Captain’s Residence. The accommodation is fantastic. The rooms were spacious and everything you could possibly need was provided. The beds were comfy, and the pillows were soooo nice!!|The views from the terrace are stunning - you could travel the world and it would be hard to improve on the view from Stella Mare.|The pool is freshwater, really clean and well maintained. The immediate surroundings are also lovely. There are lots of fruit trees, and much of the produce is used in the restaurant.|Breakfast was great. There was a huge choice, and the staff would go out of their way to provide anything you particularly wanted. There was lots of fresh produce, which varied slightly each day.|Teo, the owner, is also great. Very friendly and a source of valuable advice and tips!|There is a path to the coast (no sand), and a very short walk to a couple of beach bars. We ate here twice and the food (and wine) were lovely - good value, locally sourced food.||If you’re looking for a lively resort, this is not for you! It’s very peaceful and there isn’t a lot going on. Shops are in short supply. However, for peace, relaxation and quality time, it’s just perfect. I’d absolutely...
