We stayed at the lovely Hotel Valsabbion for 5 nights at the start of our 3 stop honeymoon in Croatia. First impressions were great. We had a very warm welcome, the reception area is very clean and modern and we were offered the choice of two rooms (our original room with a sea view or the penthouse suite at supplement charge). The sea view room was lovely but the penthouse suite was amazing and it didn't take us long to make our choice! The penthouse has an indoor swimming pool, a huge balcony with lots of seating, a weights machine and rower, a super king (6ft wide) bed and lots of wardrobe space. We had tea and coffee brought up to our room every day and nothing was ever too much trouble for the ladies. There are a couple of downsides but they didn't get in the way of us enjoying our stay here...
The bathroom doesn't have a door (I believe this is the same in the other rooms too) and there is very little room to put toiletries but we moved one of the cupboards and that sorted that!
The pool is a bit on the nippy side. The heating of it is linked to the rest of the water heating in the hotel which means that there is a limit to the temperature it can be heated to and because we visited end of September the outdoor temperature was not high enough to heat the pool. But on our last day we managed to reach 27c which was lovely in the heat of the day.
Surroundings - We ate in 4 lovely restaurants for dinner. Restaurant Volaria, Villa Margarita, Restaurant Laterna (our favourite as a special treat) and OASI. They were all lovely and the service was good. They are all within easy walking distance.
We went further afield to the aquariam which is worth a visit, to Pula to visit the amphitheatre and the lovely old town (definitely worth a visit - we parked for free about 15 mins walk away in the hospital car park) and to the Brist Olive Farm tour (the morning one). It was fantastic! Definitely worth doing if you are in the area.
Overall, we both really enjoyed Pula and the hotel staff were lovely. The hotel itself is very modern and clean and is just missing a few...

My partner and I went for a two week trip through Istria and our stay at Valsabbion near Pula was easily our favourite stop.
First of all, the quality of the service was exceptionally good. All the staff were super friendly, had great knowledge and paid attention to detail in every possible way. They went above and beyond to make our stay as enjoyable as possible which really made a big difference to us!
The rooms are absolutely stunning. Every piece of furniture is obviously handpicked to make the space aesthetically pleasing and matching in every way. - Making it almost hard to leave the hotel at all!
Cleanliness was impeccable as well. The whole hotel only has a few rooms so you feel very well looked after as a guest throughout.
As for the breakfast - the food was nothing short of amazing. I myself am gluten free and vegetarian and the staff were extremely accommodating towards my dietary requirements. Actually, a lot of the food they had on offer was already suitable for my needs but they again went above and beyond to cater accordingly. Again the attention to detail was unbelievable as they offered fresh home made breads, pastries, strudels, even yoghurt and much more.
Location is awesome, max 15 mins from center of Pula and directly on a beach. (+private beach!)
I could go on for ever about how much we loved our stay at Valsabbion but honestly it’s the place to stay if you’re in the area! Can not...
Read moreA lovely hidden gem – Boutique Hotel Valsabbion offers a truly personal and peaceful stay with exceptional service. The team was warm, attentive, and made us feel at home from the moment we arrived.
We stayed in the corner suite with a sea view (I believe the blue one – not the pink). The room was charming and designed with great attention to detail. There’s a lot of decoration – especially bunny-themed items – which gives it character, but it can feel a bit overwhelming, and it does collect dust.
The only real downside was the bathroom: while stylish, it was somewhat overdecorated and lacked proper storage space for personal items. Also, privacy was limited – the bathroom is fully visible through glass from within the room at all times, which might not suit everyone.
Breakfast was generous and beautifully arranged, but for those who follow a strict or healthy diet, it was a bit heavy. More simple, fresh options (like whole fruits and lighter ingredients served à la minute) would go a long way. No need for too much – just a few high-quality items would elevate the experience.
All in all, a sweet little hotel with a lot of heart and a fantastic team. We’d absolutely come back – just with lighter...
