The hotel was in a good position, easy to walk into Medulin where there were plenty of bars and restaurants and a lovely bakery and supermarkets. The walk was around 10 mins. The hotel facilities are good there are 2 pools with adjoining childrens pools. The larger pool is clearly older and if I was being picky I would say the surrounding area could do with painting and smartening up, considering its a 4 star hotel. The 2nd pool is newer and you can see the difference in the condition of the area surrounding the pool. There are plenty of sunbeds and its cleverly set out so that people can sit by the pools or in the gardens. We were there in August so it was busy, the 2nd week got slightly quieter, towels do go on sunbeds early in the morning, however if you want to go later to the pool you can usually still get a sunbed, but perhaps not in the best spot. There is a beach in front of the hotel it is small and gets extremely busy and you do have to pay for sunbeds even the ones owned by the hotel. What hotel guests (including ourselves) do is sit by the pool then just go off to the beach if they want to do water sports etc which does leave sunbeds taken and left empty for longer periods of time, however not sure what else you can do and everyone seems to do it. The food is good and extremely varied great meat and fish choices and some vegetarian options. Only issue is they don't label any desserts so you don't really know what you are choosing, it would be helpful if they were labelled for allergy purposes and just so you know what you are eating. Rooms were lovely, we had a superior room with sea view, balcony was a good size and the view was stunning, room was big enough with plenty of storage. The rooms were clean and so were the surrounding areas. We did have an electrical issue where everything went off, it was late at night, however when my husband raised it with reception they called a maintenance person in to fix it which was good. There is an indoor pool which we didn't use and there is a gym. There isn't any entertainment as such for adults, there is a disco each night for children which is held by the pool. If you want nightly entertainment this isn't the hotel for you, there is a bar to sit in which has a good atmosphere and drinks are reasonably priced. The staff at the hotel are all polite and friendly. We were there 2 weeks, we hired a car which you need to do if you want to see other areas of Northern Croatia and was well worth doing. There is a bus to Pula which we used and that worked well, you can pay on card however card machine wasn't working on the way back so had to pay cash, keep cash as back up. Also there was a local restaurant that was cash only so take a mix of cash and card. There is a large car park at the hotel which gets extremely busy as a lot of people drive to the hotel from within Europe, however we were always able to park. Overall it was a lovely location and hotel. We booked it through Tui, however we didn't see our Tui rep the whole holiday, no notification of a welcome meeting on the app, my husband messaged customer services twice and they said they would get the rep to contact us, nothing at all!!! so beware if you go with Tui you may not see the rep, they will be getting a...
Read moreWe have just returned from a 7 night holiday at The Park Plaza Medulin. The review I am about to write I hope is a true and fair reflection. The hotel is set in a stunning location. I would recommend a sea view room to appreciate the setting. The hotel is spotlessly clean and the staff are truly wonderful. Big shout out to Molanna our waiter who was so helpful and never stopped smiling. The hotel itself is very corporate with no entertainment and no waiter service outside of the restaurant.|We had a superior room which was anything but. Ok it was quite large but very minimalistic. There are no drawers for putting cloths in like underwear, socks shorts etc. There was one small wardrobe with 10 hangers. All non hanging cloths had to be piled up on the few shelves available. The bed however was very large and probably the best bed I have slept in including my own at home. The bathroom was ok with a decent shower.soaps are provided. There is a safe in the room which is usable free of charge.|The two swimming pools are excellent with plenty of sun beds and parasols available. We saw very little evidence of bed reserving. There is no waiter service so if you need a coffee or drink you have to go to the bar and collect.. It is only a short walk to the stony beach. Take a pair of beach shoes. The beach does get busy at weekends with local out for the day.|The food I would say was ok. Not a particularly wide choice and very similar day by day. We had vegetable soup 5 out of the 7 days. One big criticism is the lack of ice cream or cream available. The fruit salads were just crying out for Ice cream. |The outside restaurant for lunch was reasonably priced. However apart from Pizza which I would suggest is big enough to share there is no snack type meals such as sandwiches , toasties etc. Again no ice cream or lollies available. Medulin itself is really disappointing. I guess we may have been spoilt by staying In places like Rovinj, Porec and Cavtat all beautiful Croatian towns. Medulin has a small marina and the only shops are tourists souvenir shops selling mostly tat. It didn’t help that we chose the week that Medulin was hosting The Harley Davidson bikers rally. 40000 bikers in a small town not a great idea but that is another story.|All in all we had a pleasant holiday . In my opinion The Plaza struggles to justify a four star. Compared to other hotels we have stayed in in Croatia I would say 3 star plus. We will certainly go back to Croatia but sadly not to Medulin or...
Read moreThe hotel overall is good but there are some improvements that need to be attended to. |The hotel is in a great location and the balcony and sea view were spot on. The room was a little bit on the compact side but that's because we had a cot in there as well as the main beds. The TV had a choice of about 3 or 4 English speaking films on most nights, plus new channels and one sport channel. There was also a reasonably sized fridge in the room.|The food in the evening was very good, lots of choice, fish, stews, pizzas, pasta, risotto, roasts etc. The breakfast was also very good, however the sausages weren't my cup of tea for that time of day. Other than that lots of variety. |The salt water pools were good with lots of availability of sunbeds. We didn't need to get up early to put towels down to bag the area we wanted. We had an 8 month old with us so needed the space between the loungers to fit the travel pram in the shade.|The bar area is nice, with reasonably quick service. Be careful when ordering prosecco, they charge for a double when you want a full glass. |The hotel would benefit from specifically defined areas in the lobby area, a piano bar, TV sports area and entertaining space would be an improvement on the open plan design. Also the beach/pool side restaurant shut in the evening when we were there. If open in the evening this could have been a real bonus.|On to the improvements. Our room could have done with a deep clean, I know the staff are busy but time really needs to be planned in to do this. The air-con was a bit weak, the display showed that it could get down to 15 degrees C but never got down lower than 22. |Around the pool are some damaged flags and tiles. These could cause an injury especially to little kids running around and may present accessibility challenges to people with mobility issues. |The resort of Medulin felt very safe day or night. The Istrian Riviera is definitely somewhere we will come back to next year. Croatia is a beautiful country, blending the best of Italian and central/eastern European food. The scenery is fantastic with a breathtaking view around...
