I stayed in a room on a higher floor with a nice view over the river/canal. The room itself was comfortable, with a lovely bathroom (seemed to have been recently renovated?) and a deep bath which I enjoyed after so much hiking! The room had a very comfortable bed, plenty of storage space and a small fridge which was useful too. The mini bar was OK in price and had nice things.|The young man in reception was very nice and helpful, explaining everything quite well despite our language differences.|The meal I had in the restaurant (chicken schnitzel and potato pancakes) was actually very nice; fresh, succulent and with good flavour. You do have to purchase your sides separately from the main, which was a little odd, but I guess makes sense if you don't want to waste food people don't eat. The waitresses were friendly also.|The breakfast was very nice, plenty of options to suit most people and bread fresh. You could also take a muesli bar and fruit and bottle of water, which is handy for later in the day.|The hotel is not a four star though, the services certainly do not match that rating. It is basic and nice enough, but not coming with features that would enhance. It lacks credible wifi, which is a key issue for many travellers these days. We rely on wifi to keep in touch with the world, plan our next maps for hiking, etc. There was wifi in some areas, but you had to be lucky to get online. My room did not have wifi, which was not pleasing at all. The TV was small, had only black and white channels and local only. Very poor reception. Ok, I would expect that for this area, being in middle of the rocks. |Now for the rest: I walked from the boat up to the hotel, which was an easy and interesting walk. There are numerous bridges across the river/canal, so if you want to walk on one side or the other and change your mind, no problem. |I did not find the rest of the town particularly engaging; the tourist office was friendly and helpful, so that was nice. the location is lovely and unique. You can easily travel to and from by boat, which is fun. But the markets taking up what seems the whole town spoiled it for me. I completely understand that people need to make a living and I have no doubt that if you needed some new clothes, cheap cigarettes, vodka or garden gnomes, then you were going to be in luck! It is a pity they do take up so much of the town. but it is what it is. |The Hotel Praha is happily located away from all those markets and an easy stroll to the start of hiking trails and also you can choose which bus stop to walk to, upstream or downstream. |If I had to stay in Hrensko again, you know, I would probably choose Hotel...
Read moreSo, I picked this hotel due to its location. The location is great and the rooms themselves are OK. However I cannot recommend this hotel for a few reasons. I would not call this a 4* hotel. I have stayed in a lot of 4* hotels and this is not one of them. Firstly the reception in from 8am to 10pm. I arrived after 10pm and had trouble getting in, though someone kindly came down to reception to let me in and give me a key when I turned up about 11:30pm. More seriously, there is no privacy on the balcony and they are only separated by a mesh as you can see on the pictures. You can see in to the rooms next to you, but that is not the main issue. Not having a solid divider means is someone is smoking on the balcony even 3 rooms away, the smoke comes straight over your balcony and you cannot sit out in private if others are using their balcony too. Worst is breakfast. This is a national park where people go hiking. Breakfast starts at 8am, not 6am as you would expect. However again they make it worse. Its not free seating, basically the rooms are allocated to tables, so you end up sitting with complete strangers. In our case with ones who did not speak English. The breakfast should be first come – first served with free seating. To make this even worse, there is no tea and coffee in the room. I would expect this with a 3, let alone a so-called 4, so you cannot get coffee until 8am. Overall not a good...
Read moreWe thought it was the best place to stay when we booked it, but it was not great. We were the only guests, and had to lock and unlock the front door every time ourselves. They didn’t seem to understand when we explained that we therefore needed a second set of keys, and reluctantly gave us one. The whole hotel was dark and empty, with long creepy corridors….think “The Shining”. The room itself was clean, comfortable and warm, and everything worked. But there was no way to make tea, and obviously, no one at the front desk to ask. Breakfast was pretty miserable, though at least someone showed up to make it. Basic rolls and some meat and cheese. Once they served runny hard boiled eggs without an egg cup. How can you eat it? It’s details like this that really bothered me. Also at exactly 10:00 the guy called us to tell us we had to check out. The only guests! I found that kind of rude, as we were literally standing with our bags ready to go downstairs. Still, I hope they can survive the season with the forest fire damage, though. It’s an old house and a shame if they...
