Probably the most random place I’ve stayed in. It’s a hotel in a gym, which makes it awkward to walk with your luggage to your room passing through a gym.
The downs: rooms are in a dire state (stinky drain, scratches or marks on floor/walls, windows don’t block the outside noise, poor lighting, lack of plugs). My room had 3 beds, including a couch that had been made into a bed and a camp bed (I was staying alone!). I had no floor space to move around and the camp bed was blocking the window so I couldn’t really open it. When I asked reception if the camp bed could be removed I was told that it couldn’t, without giving me a reason for it. I ran into room service who kindly agreed to do so. However, they didn’t remove the sheets from the sofa, so I did it myself because it felt really awkward to have an extra made up bed in the room, and I wanted to use the sofa as a sofa… For a hotel catering to business people, you would expect more plugs in the room to be able to plug in your computer charger without having to unplug the desk light, or maybe plugs in the reception/cafe area to be able to work from there too…
The ups: overall friendly staff, although kind of felt like I was bothering each time I’d have to ask for something like ordering a taxi or something; hotel guests have access to the pool, gym and wellness center which is much appreciated. Breakfast is ok, although for the price you could expect fresh juice, bigger mugs for tea and a toaster for bread.
A big improvement would be to add phones in the rooms to reach reception or vice versa… case in point: because I was 5mins late to come down to take the taxi I had ordered, they sent the taxi driver up to my room to fetch me, whilst I was already coming down to the lobby. since the hotel is quite a maze, the cab driver must have gotten lost and I had to wait an extra 15mins before staff finally decided to call...
Read moreOn the day we stayed at DGI-Huset Herning, there was an event in town, so price levels were as high as a mid-range luxury hotel might be elsewhere (EUR223/USD250 per night.)||||This is not a luxury hotel, however: service is minimal, rooms are small with hard beds, and after breakfast the only onsite food is a refrigerated case of prepackaged juices and energy drinks.||||DGI Huset is a sports hotel. Bring your workout gear and your swimsuit - your swimsuit in particular, because there are 5 large and beautiful pools plus a wellness area that includes light therapy and a steam room with a light show. Massages, facials, etc. can also be booked at an extra but reasonable (for Denmark) price. ||||Outside of the water, a weight room, indoor exercise bike room, and a climbing wall are also available.||||If you choose to stay at this hotel, it makes sense to plan all your other activities in Herning around when the hotel's facilities will be available. For example, the pools close at 6 on Saturday and Sunday, and during weekday mornings the largest one is taken over by some very aggressive senior citizens doing water aerobics.||||Please note that early check-in is not usually available. You can use the facilities before the 3pm check-in time, but I recommend that you have all your sports gear in a separate carrying case so you don't have to go rooting through your suitcases in the lobby like we did.||||Think of DGI Huset not as a hotel but as a fabulous gym with a couple of nice cots upstairs where you can rest, and you'll go...

They offer a full course program including Les Mills classes and more. This is free for hotel guests.||||Breakfast: It is ok, buffet style, not really large.||||Location: More or less in the center of Herning. Easy to approach by car or public transport.||||I like this hotel, because it is not only a hotel, it offers a full fitness club. Quite unique concept. ||||Hotel team is very friendly...
