Manaya Bed & Breakfast — Hotel in Higüey

We visited the DR to attend a wedding at a resort. My boyfriend and I didn’t want to visit a foreign country we had never seen, and spend the entire time on a resort, sheltered from the community. The Manaya could not have been the more perfect solution. Not only is it a beautifully kept property run by lovely people, it is in a safe feeling neighborhood close to plenty of shops and restaurants. And, of course you cannot beat the price. Our room at the Manaya was air conditioned and the wifi worked great. The staff at the Manaya were very helpful and patient with us as we practiced speaking and understanding Spanish. Google Translate became a huge help to us. We were concerned about transportation to and from wedding events prior to our arrival, but we were informed that Uber was available…and it was VERY affordable and reliable. Each morning the staff offers a lovely breakfast with 3 options that are tasty, and the breakfast area has a really nice vibe. I could go on and on about how great this place is. We could not have been more happy with our stay here in the DR. I would highly recommend this place to anyone traveling to Punta Cana who wants a quiet, clean, safe stay in an area where you can get to know the culture and feel...

The cab drivers didn't even know how to find this B and B.when at last we arrived, there was no booking for us and we were in an area of private condos. Granted, it was inexpensive, but this was a night to forget.|Two non English speaking folks were wakened by our persistent ringing of the bell and led us to a bedroom in someone's apt. There was a bath that functioned. Our bed was the box spring of a set, I think. We fought springs all night. There was AC but it was turned on so high that we were freezing. And ours was the good room! |Our friends had been put into a room that had dirty linen, they never got towels, and had the same issue with the AC. Worse still was that someone walked into the room around 1 am and they clearly expected to stay ( we were never given any keys to either room, and could not contact each other as we were in separate buildings) . The intruders were sent away, but our friends were afraid to sleep! The owners, who we saw in the morning, served a very nice breakfast. When told of our difficulties, they appeared surprised. I needed a place for a night as my friends were coming in to PuntaCana the next day and our group hotel became available. I quickly browsed Expedia and found this affordable option. The hosts are a nice bunch. Very polite and helpful. I arrived an hour before checkin and they allowed me check in. They gave me directions to go get food and other things. I needed a late checkout the next day as my friend’s flight got delayed by hours. Rather than push me out, they allowed me a late checkout, offered to call Pizza Hut for food delivery for my lunch, and showed me empathy and care as I was stressed with the delayed flight. I recommend this place: it is homely and I loved the comfy pillows, tv and perfectly working air conditioner; they serve breakfast, have a pond with nice fishes, have a pool, swings sets, and also relaxing chair all around the compound.
