We are the only ones here. I live in Ecuador near Riobamba. This is the coldest place I have been except the Chimborazo refuge. The wind howled all night. Be prepared with warm clothes. One degree Celsius at night. But all worth it to see Quilotoa. The staff and Nancy were nice. We enjoyed the dinner and breakfast that came with the fee. Nothing special, typical Ecuadorian food, but a good value for two people. We paid with a bank transfer from banco Pichincha. Credit card has a 14% surcharge. The community restaurant across the street has a woodstove downstairs and a good view of Quilotoa upstairs. We checked a neighboring hotel. This one far better, same price ($50 for 2). Big electric heater made the cold tolerable. The internet allowed YouTube streaming and seemed totally adequate.

Worst travel experience in 40 years of backpacking the globe. You need to read all the other warnings and reviews about this hotel. For over six years, they have been systemically stealing and ripping off trusting visitors to their hotel and village.||Despite numerous reports to police, ministry of tourism and the hotels' auspicing organization, they continue to carry out these activities with impunity.||Our experience was identical to that of many others (if only we had read the reviews before).||We were told to go to breakfast earlier than we were expected. While we were there the manager went through our belongings in a locked room and stole US$300.||We have since put out a call through our networks and have received dozens of horrendous stories of people being ripped by this hotel and in this town. ||It is not just tourists the management are stealing from. There are numerous reports of visitors being asked to not register and cancel their online booking in return for receiving a discount.|||| With the help of the police and community from Chugchilan, we managed to get back US$100 on condition that we not make an official police report. We had no other option than to accept this as we had no cash for the remainder of the hike. We lost a day of hiking and endured humiliating negotiations.||The real warning about this place is that the police have no real authority there. The police needed to ask permission to enter the town and their only tool was negotiation.||There are loads of really nice places throughout Ecuador and South America, so I would really recommend giving this place a miss.||If you're really determined to do the Quilotoa loop, we would highly recommend that you leave all of your belongings in Chugchilan, walk up the crater and either walk back or get a collectivo, which operate continuously along the main road.||||Remember, there is no recourse in this town, should you suffer any misfortune. The President and committee members of this community are all involved in...

Worst Experience - LIED TO, STOLEN FROM, HUMILIATED

Worst travel experience in 40 years of backpacking the globe. You need to read all the other warnings and reviews about this hotel. 😊: I liked nothing NOTHING about this property!!! Location was misrepresented as next to the lake but was in fact in town center. We could not not eat the dinner as included because it was inedible and the room was very cold. The wood furnace was not working and they would not add wood. We didn't go to breakfast due to the cold temperature outside and the night before.. 😢: Everything could have been better!! In over 50 years of international travel this is the WORST hotel experience I have had!!! This hotel should be removed from working with Booking.com which we use all the time in our international travels. The property completely misrepresented itself. To summarize: WIFI did not work, not toilet supplies in room, no reception from 1400 to 1500 (had to walk around town to find someone to help us find how to check in, no sign at reception on how to check in), windows too dirty or fogged to see out, heater stopped working about 1:00 am with temperature at 0 degrees Celsius, too cold in room in morning to shower, dinner was inedible and not what we requested at check in, requested receipt for $120.00 US cash payment but was denied at time of payment. no electric outlet beside bed and lamp. This was a miserable hotel experience in everyway imaginable. I believe I should be due to a full or significant refund for this stay. Please inform me regarding to what can be done to compensate me for this horrific Booking.com hotel stay.

With thanks and best regards, Dr....
