I thought this hotel was a fantastic value in Mompiche. The rooms are very large and spacious, and the air conditioning - which is one of the most important things you can have on the coast of Ecuador - worked great. The price of the hotel was very cheap.
The hotel is a 5 minute walk from the beach.
There are hotels that are closer, including some that overlook the beach, but I don't really care because it's just a few minutes anyway. And most of the beach-adjacent hotels don’t have air conditioning.
There are many restaurants near the hotel. Overall, I felt that the food and restaurants in Mompiche were very mediocre, but I will say that there are lots of cheap options. At most places, $3 USD will get you a plate of fish soup, a plate of shrimp and rice and lentils, and a glass of juice. This fixed price meal is called an “almuerzo” which means lunch in Spanish.
Most of the people who worked at the hotel were very friendly, especially the manager (or owner?) He was very welcoming.
I also like the fact that the hotel was able to wash and dry some laundry for me at an inexpensive price. This is another factor in favor...

The wifi didn't quite reach our top floor across the pool. I think the router was in the main office (there are couches there if you need to use it). Oswaldo at the front desk is super friendly and helpful. He speaks little English, but Oswaldo doesn't shy away from striking up conversations despite language barriers, which I appreciated. On our last day, he got someone to drive us to Isla Portete, set up a pick-up time, and even asked them to give us a personal tour of the nearby Playa Negra....
Read moreThe hotel is OK. The first night we stayed in a room which didn't have hot, though I had especifically requested, as I have a little baby. This room wasn't comfortable either. The following day I asked for another room but was told they didn't have any other. I checked on a website for hotel reservations and found they were offering a room just as we wanted. After arguing with the owner we were able to change to the new room. It was much better. I have to say though, that I was quite disappointed with the beach itself. I had been there some years ago. The beach was wide, clean, beautiful, and all surrounded by palm trees. Now, little of that is...
