We boomed only two nights here, but ended up staying five. One of the best places we've stayed in South America! Staff is super friendly and helpful, shuttle service from (or to) the airport great for only $50 and the breakfast is amazing as well! Fresh (not sweetened) bread & croissants, good quality marmalade, real butter, eggs in all variaties possible (they even boiled them for us, which they're not used to here), fresh juice (mora or piña), freshly ground coffee (w milk/sugar if you want) etc. Perfect! The hotel has an older and newer part. We stayed in one of the older rooms & found it very cozy! It's spacious enough, just like the bathroom. Shower with strong, hot water :) Room was cleaner every day (w new towels & all). Location is also great, about 5 min walk from the market and other things you might need. Bus terminal also walkable, though a bit further, so if you're carrying lots of luggage, it's easier to catch a taxi for only $1.25 (which they can call for you). They have two sweet dogs that roam the grounds outside, but are never let inside any of the buildings. There's a book exchange. ||Only minor trouble we experienced one was the fact that there's a parking lot next door and on one night, one of the car alarms went off and kept going for about an hour :S||Bit that's it. Everything else was great! We'd definately recommend...
Read moreThis hotel was recommended by our guide and we can pass along the confirmation to others looking for a place to stay. We stayed here just 2 nights and were on the go all day sightseeing in the area so the El Geranio was a welcome rest stop each evening. We did our reservation online through Booking.com and paid just $90 for our 2 nights in a nice room at the far end of the building with a small private patio for our evening wine! ||||We would be amiss if we didn't mention to any traveler to the area there is a wealth of things to see and do in this area. We enjoyed a tour of a rose farm in Cayambe, shopping in the leather stores of Cotacachi, and a wonderful tour of national artist Luis Potosi woodcarving gallery in San Antonio de Ibarra. ||||The staff at the front desk and in the kitchen making breakfast were very friendly, as the case with just about everybody we encountered in Ecuador. You will notice attention to detail and we thought the courtyard was well tended and the place very neat and clean so a tip of the hat to the...
Read moreThis review is long overdue, El Geranio was a last minute find for us, but will be the go to place for us in the future! The rooms are clean and simple, and shower was always nice and hot, beds were very nice and clean and comfortable, wifi was always working good. the breakfasts are fantastic! menu items are simple yet traditional and absolutley delicious! I have to admit, we had a few special needs/requests, and the staff was AMAZING and so willing to accomodate our needs. Staff was so friendly, all of them! We spent the new years holiday, hence why this review is so over due. My wife is from Otavalo, hence the reason why El Geranio will be our future go to place to stay. Parking was safe and secure, off the street. the grounds were very pleasant and well manicured. It truly is a great place to stay and right in the center of Otavalo, just about 3 or 4 short blocks from El Plaza de Ponchos. Restaurants located within walking distance in any direction. Again, for us the one great thing, above all the others was the service and...
