Reading all the reviews posted here and unfortunately we did not get the pleasure to meet Harry. Eco Friendly was run by a woman (she didn't introduce herself so I didn't catch her name). Rooms were standard; lots of cupboard space. Refrigerator did not cold and smelled like guava. It hadn't been cleaned. Air-conditioners in the room worked extremely well - quite powerful for the size of the room. I was chilly every night and found bugs on my pillow - not unexpected for island living. Cleaning service is every day but not very thorough - on the second day, my towel was folded up on the bed and was stained. Apparently there were airport pick ups that we didn't know about - we ended up paying for the cab ourselves (only $2). The lady at the hotel did help us organize tours to Espanola and around San Cristobal, but we were charged more than a guy we spoke to who also booked around the same time. The tours were good. My travel companion had an issue with the bathroom in the breakfast area on the last day, and alerted the woman we had been dealing with. He asked for a plunger, she told him to go back in and try and fix it. He went back and it didn't work. He tried again 15 mins later and the toilet started flooding. We alerted the other staff. The same woman came to look for him later while he was in the shower, instead found me and brought me upstairs and just yelled at me. Inappropriate considering I had nothing to do with it and she knew it. Regardless, I offered to help and she completely ignored me - so I don't really see the point of her fetching me, other than to use me as a verbal punching bag? I went downstairs and asked my companion to come back up and speak with her. She ignored him too. He decided to tip her $20 for the trouble. She took the money without a word of acknowledgement and continued to ignore him. When we came back to fetch our bags since we were checking out, she'd locked us out of the property. After repeatedly ringing the bell, she let us back in and continued to ignore us. When you're working in hospitality, things go awry sometimes. She should have taken responsibility of the bathroom issue straightaway instead of asking a hotel guest to fix it. My companion shouldn't have tried to fix it either, but in no way does that mean she has the right to verbally abuse the two of us and then ignore any attempt for us to help. He tipped her afterwards, but I would not have attempted to compensate that type of behavior. That attitude is inexcusable regardless of any issue you might encounter with your property. Keep this in mind if you book here. I...
Read moreWhile at first we were worried because the hotel apparently did not get information about our arrival from Expedia (booked through Tripmasters), and we stood at the entrance for a half hour until some nice young woman offered to call the owner, Lucretia, the owner, came quickly, and then helped us find a place to eat and drove us there and back. The hotel is totally unassuming from the street, but lovely inside, with a nice courtyard, clean, well decorated rooms with comfortable beds, and a lovely breakfast from a covered, open room overlooking the bay. We couldn’t have been happier with the service provided by the hotel. While it is on the edge of town, and we walked from the ferry to the hotel on the first day (up hill), its easy to catch a cab for $2 to go anywhere in town, and Lucretia was very helpful in arranging a taxi driver to take us to the highlands to see turtles, a beach and some other aspects of the island. We highly recommend the hotel. The nice side about being on the edge is it’s very quiet, and a 10 min walk to down town restaurants (maybe you want to walk down and take a cab back since the return is all up hill). We’d definitely go back. Oh, and when our departure changed from 6am to 2pm, Lucretia was quite willing to let us have the room until we were picked up at 2. Great...
Read moreHarry and his staff made our stay absolutely fantastic. From booking the hotel, through arrival and departure we were treated as if we were the most important ones around. We had the best day every day and will be forever grateful for Harry and company. The breakfast was such a treat with fresh fruit, cereal, bread and a personal hot plate every morning - served with a smile and enjoyed with a view of the bay. The rooms were great, spacious and very clean. The beds were very comfortable. The shower water was hot. The cold water dispenser by the office was a wonderful treat and an easy way to fill up our reusable bottles before heading out for the day.||Harry helped us book the tours we wanted to go on well in advance as we were there during peak season. All tours were amazing and we were thrilled to find that Harry works with the best companies in town - the best boats with the best and most knowledgeable crews. We had nothing but amazing experiences on our tours. Harry also called taxis for us which took us around town and into the highlands for a lovely tour there. When one of us had a dental issue, Harry got us seen by a dentist within half an hour on Christmas Eve.||Harry,...
