We had some pretty mixed experiences with restaurants in San Cristobal, ranging from ok to terrible, until El Descanso Marinero was recommended to us by a local fisherman and tour guide. We have now eaten here 3 nights in a row! The highlight is the delicious super-fresh fish cooked according to your preference (our favourites were “al carbon” (on the BBQ grill) and “al jugo” (steamed in its own juices with tomato, pepper, onion etc). The cheese (cheddar cheese, no feta) was moldy, no bread, no real dressing. When I commented on the moldy cheese they simply took away the plate, came back 15min later with a new one with different cheese and a free lemonade even though I would have rather changed the food and wasn't thirsty at all. The condiments seemed neglected (please send food inspectors ASAP), and even the complimentary popcorn dish wasn't spared from debris.
