Liked:|The hostel had a great vibe and a very good impression as you walk into the property. There are a few trees to shade you from the heat if you want to lounge in a hammock or sit and chat with others on the painted rubber tire stools. These are placed around tables whose tops are made from other reclaimed materials. There is coffee and tea available in reception 24/7 and a large, clean kitchen guests are welcome to use. Once you are checked in, the owner will show you to your room and later offer you an introduction to the town as he invites you to gather around a coffee table whose top is a map of the island. Our room was on the upper level where another open air lounge area can be found, complete with smart tv and sound system, though I didn’t see anyone use this area. Our matrimonial room had a king size bed and enough room for our backpacks though I’m not sure how you would fare out with large suitcases. There was a nightstand and three shelves in our room which we used to store clothes and toiletries. The room was spotless and the private bathroom clean as well. There was hot water and water pressure typical of the islands. The hostel is in walking distance to the main street and tourist shops. It’s also a 15 minute walk to the Interpretation Center, so very well situated. I would positively stay here again.||Disliked|The property is undergoing renovations on the upper floor. Unfortunately the renovations were happening on the other side of the wall of our room. At 7:50 each morning (we stayed 3 nights), we awoke to hammering and sawing (on the wall). It felt like someone was coming through. It was unbearably loud and we had to vacate the room as quickly as possible each morning. I would have liked to have been informed before arriving or at least upon arrival. I would have also preferred if construction work started at a more reasonable...
Read moreRead moreI was quite surprised when I saw that my room was behind a mirror-wardrobe-door (only a tiny, tiny lock to lock the door. The wall of my room was painted in pink and not very spacious (not enough space to open a suitcase without blocking one's way to the bathrom). Although I didn't mind too much (it's the Galápagos after all!), there were tiny, tiny bugs crawling from the wall onto the bed. I minded more the many mosquitos in the room (-- anti-repellent strongly recommended!). The bathroom was ok, had warm water (water pressure low but ok). Unfortunately, there were no bedside lamps so that the only option is to switch off the light next to the door and head back to the bed in the dark. Otherwise, the room itself was clean, there were electronic outlets right next to the bed, and the bed was comfy. ||||The staff was friendly and also followed up on one of my tours which I hadn't booked with them since I needed some things to sort out.||||The hostel itself is near to the pier (5 mins walk), the bakery (1min walk), and airport (5mins taxi drive, 2USD). When entering the hostel, there's a nice garden with hammocks and seatings which creates a very nice atmosphere. There's a well-equipped and clean kitchen with amenities which could be used by all guests (fridge, stove, free drinking water,...). On the first floor, there's a common area with a bigger TV. Unfortunately, due to my wardrobe-style doors, it was very loud in the evenings/nights as entire families were watching TV until late in the night without being considerate of the guests already sleeping in the adjacent rooms.||||WiFi, as in the most places on Galápagos, I guess, was not good. The staff claimed to have WiFi and the password also worked but the reception and speed was ultra-slow if not...
Our stay at Gosen Guesthouse could have been better but people (not sure if it was staff or guests or both) would make such a racket in the mornings just outside the doors of guests while they were still sleeping.||||The place has a handful of rooms downstairs which are directly adjacent to the communal dining area and kitchen. One morning a blender was running at 5:30 am along with unhushed conversations every other morning before 6:00.||||The room we stayed in was very basic with reasonably comfortable beds and an attached private bathroom.||||The place has nice amenities with the availability of a full kitchen (fridge, stove, cookware, etc.) a nice lounge area with TV upstairs, a good size dining table, etc.||||I liked the fact that the hostel had a water cooler for filling water bottles with cold, safe drinking water.||||The wifi was intermittent at best. If you need a better connection I recommend getting a local SIM card.||||I would have really enjoyed our stay if it wasn't for the noise made every morning.||||The location is a bit off the main tourist areas. It takes about 10 minutes to walk there...
