This little hotel is a real gem, located in the small laid back beach town of Puerto Lopez, Ecuador. It has a very nice clean swimming pool and is situated across the street from a very long beach that goes left, to the fishing activities and right to a very long private walk of about 50 minutes each way, to the end, at the cliffs.. I have been coming here for a few years, and this time, I noticed a lot of community (Puerto Lopez) infrastructure upgrades such as a new "malecon", no more above ground wiring in the city, and an all'round cleaner beach front town look. Prices have remained lower than other tourist towns in South America. There is a very nice street level restaurant in the hotel, but it does not belong to the Hotel Pacifico. A fine dining meal, (a lot of great food including 2 or 3 glasses of red wine and dessert), comes to about USD 25. But of course the same restaurant also offers great meals at about $US 8.00 if you skip the vino and dessert. There are also plenty of other small cafes and restaurants along the Malecon (Promenade) where you can eat a great meal minus the wine and dessert, for 6 or $US7.||||This hotel has rooms overlooking the beach, and hotel rooms at the back. It is always a pleasure to return here and see Senora Nellie, or Senor Mario or Senor Hector at the front desk, and the maintenance staff, Senor. Vincente, and the two ladies serving breakfast and other housekeepers. ||||The rooms are quite large and clean, with what appears to be large light beige colored ceramic floor tiles. The bathrooms are nice and big, and with nice showers and good water pressure. I always look forward to my return to this hotel when I am in this part of the world. There are day trips you can take to Islas La Plata where you can watch the adorably goofy blue footed booby birds in their habitat. When I was on this day trip, the boat stopped in a harbour at the island and it was great for diving off the boat into the beautiful clear and warm ocean waters.||||To get to Puerto Lopez, there is a gigantic bus terminal next to the Guayaquil International Airport, where I believe the one way bus fare to Puerto Lopez costs no more than $US10.00, although please check this because I never took the 4 hour bus trip from Guayaquil to Puerto Lopez. Instead, I always take a taxi for $US100.00 each way. The taxi is worth it. I avoid, as much as possible, taking the taxi late at night or before dawn, only because about 3 hours of the 4 hour trip to or from Guayaquil, are through hills, that can be very foggy at night, in spite of the excellent road system. Puerto Lopez has a couple of safe and reliable taxi drivers they can book for you to meet you at your hotel in Guayaquil and/or to return you to the airport in Guayaquil.||||The Hotel Pacifico locks its front doors at night. However, the front desk person sits next to the locked door, so it opens instantly on returning to the hotel. - very safe.||This charming little beach front hotel exceeds my expectations of a laid back beach hotel in a beach town, with wonderful people working here. Also, wifi is included, although breakfast is not included in the price. A very large breakfast costs USD4.00, so it is OK. Very reasonably priced hotel, excellent value. I have done all of the touristy things here - seeing the next village up the road "Solango" taking a 45 minute bus trip to Mantanita (best suited to the young surfer & 24/7 party crowd!). Also, spent 1/2 day at Los Frailes beach, seen the Aqua Blanca village and the mud baths. By the way, the authentic one and only Panama Hats are made at a small factory in the town of Puerto Lopez, - NOT in Panama!||||Once you've done the touristy things, it's pretty neat to just stroll along the beach and drink or eat at whatever beach hut or restaurant you feel like, or dive into the ocean. Thus far, I have never seen more than tiny waves perhaps one or two feet, but most of the time, the water is perfectly calm. The ocean water in August & September is a bit chillier than you would think, but in the December - March time frame, I find it to be perfectly warm.||||You can have your laundry done by exiting exit right and walking a couple of short blocks to a corner house. Someone from there will return it to the hotel to save you from picking it up. You pay in advance. Prices range between $5USD and up to perhaps $USD 15.00, or perhaps more, if you have a huge bag full of clothes PLUS want it ironed. ----- in other words, very reasonable.||||Thank you Senora Nellie, Senor Mario, Senor Hector, Senor Vicente and all.||||I will be back (as always!). The perfect location to relax and to do nothing!! - delightful....
Read moreOk I could write a book on how rude this place is. First of all there is much nicer places nearby and cheaper. The internet is slow and some rooms it doesn't reach. I asked the manager for extra towels for the pool and he told me no, the ones provided in the room are sufficient. I came with a family of 5 and there were only 4 towels in the room. Second I asked him for change for a large bill since he was only accepting cash payment for the rooms. I needed money to visit local vendors and shops in the street. I was rudely denied. When the maids cleaned the room they removed the sheets on one of the beds and didn't replace them. I asked for them to be replaced by night and it was never done. Then on our last day checkout was at noon. We let the kids continue to play in the pool past noon while we were waiting in the lobby for our transportation, out of nowhere he came to us and said your kids have to get out of the pool it's...
Read moreThis is undoubtedly the best hotel in Puerto Lopez. The restaurant is nice with a great view of the beach. Great pool area. Hotel is clean and well kept. My room was air conditioned with a nice bath. My balcony looked out onto the beach. Prices were reasonable. The staff is very nice and at least two of the women there speak English fairly well. Staff went out of their way to make my stay comfortable. Another review said that there was a problem with people offering tour packages. The hotel staff does not offer touring and I had no problems with being harassed by those tour vendors in the street. Would I stay there again? YOU BET! In fact, I plan on being there again in November! I wouldn't stay anywhere else in...
