Visited in August 2024. Ecuador. Puyo.
We stumbled upon this hotel after seeing photos that made it look authentic and interesting, with wooden cabins and a beautiful property. However, we quickly regretted our decision – the hotel is absolutely not designed for accommodation and can only be considered a beautiful recreational area.
Accommodation:
The small cabins are located within a beautiful green area that resembles a lush jungle. The interior is very basic; for the price you get a bed, a vintage TV from the prehistoric era, a toilet with a shower, and that’s about it. There’s no complimentary water; you can only purchase it from the mini-bar for $4.75. There are no glasses to drink water from, no hair dryer, or any other amenities for comfort and overnight stay. However, all of this is bearable – the biggest problem is the complete lack of noise insulation. You’ll feel like you’re sleeping outdoors, with every rustle, bird song, cricket chirping, and passing person audible. If you’re a light sleeper, you won’t be able to sleep – I guarantee it. The windows only have screens, no glass, making you feel like you’re camping in the middle of the forest.
Property:
The property is beautiful, well-maintained, and incredibly lush and clean. It features a swimming pool, jacuzzi, and sauna – all functional and high quality, but you need to request them to be turned on in advance. The property isn't designed to accommodate guests with large suitcases; there’s no convenient access for cars, and you’ll have to carry your luggage a considerable distance to reach your cabin. You can, however, request assistance from the staff by calling the hotel beforehand.
Food:
Breakfast has a fixed menu; we weren’t even asked what we’d like. They brought out something like fried banana in batter, one fried egg, and a small fruit selection. The breakfast is frankly very weak and lacks variety. As far as I understand, dinner at the restaurant isn’t much better, so you need to head into town to eat.
Conclusion:
It’s a decent place if you don't consider it a hotel. It's a wonderful area to stroll through, visit the spa, and relax in the green jungle, away from the hustle and bustle of the streets. If you are considering it as a hotel, be sure to bring earplugs, an adapter to charge your phone (if you're a foreigner), and don't expect...
Read morePlease read and share the great service we received at Hosteria Flor de Canela in Puyo This past Sunday I rushed back to Puyo to be close to my son before the protests and road closure were set to begin. I didn't have a hotel. I wasn't sure where I was staying. When I arrived into town I was quite lucky to find the doors of Hosteria Flor de Canela open. They offered me a room and much more!
Let me begin by saying their hotel, pool and jungle trails are beautiful and their service far exceeded expectations.
What happens next is what sets them apart. On Tuesday night, the situation was getting more challenging in Puyo and I needed to pick up my son. They called for transport but most taxis were not working due to lack of fuel. So the owner, Franklin Jaramillo, took it upon himself to drive me to pick up my son before the passage closed. Franklin's team arranged a flight out for my son and I. The next day he drove us as far as he could. Unfortunately, due to the barricades he couldn't take us to the airport. Franklin waited for hours with us. He didn't leave until he knew the passage was open for us and called us to make sure we made it safely across all the following barricades. All this Franklin did from his good will and kindness. He would not accept any compensation. This my friends is 5 star service that far exceeds expectation. Please share! #hosteria flor de canela...
Read moreI came with my classmates and a couple of teachers for a school trip, the location and the hotel itself is really nice, but the service was terrible. |My teacher wanted a bottle of water and they had no idea how to charge it as an extra to the room. |While having dinner I asked for a vegetarian meal (which I had previously asked for when I did the reservation) and the answer was "......... ok", had to ask 4 times for some lemon, and then I had to get up and go ask for it in the kitchen where the waitress repeated what I said making kind of fun of me, and then they finally brought it. |Generally all of the waiters staff didn't speak much, and were really rude with the paxs. |Breakfast wasn't any good either, "buffet" but you can't put your food in your plate, they do it for you, and they decide how much food should go on your plate, quoting "can I get more eggs please? Ans: that's enough for one breakfast". ||The only person who tried to make our accommodation better was the girl in reception, but the restaurant and waiters staff was not good at all....||I can not recommend this place, I went with a group of 25 people and non of us was happy with the service.... |Hopefully this helps them improve, because the hotel facilities are...
