Hotel Joya De La Selva — Hotel in Tena

Tena is a town catered mostly to packbackers. Hostels are plentiful while hotels are few. This hotel is centrally located in town without being on the busy streets. It is an easy walk across the river to the main boulevard. The corner suite ($120 after tax) comes with a king size bed. This room is humongous and sparsely furnished. The standard double room is okay ($90). Each room has A/C. ||Now the quirks. No one has heard of this hotel. NO ONE! It took 30 minutes to find this place after a long 4 hour drive from Quito. The owners are Ecuadorians and do not speak any English or know how to cater to foreign tourists. They made us pay the entire bill after one night even though we are still staying there for 2 more nights. They tried to tag on an 11% fee for paying with a credit card even though Booking.com does not specify that the price is for cash only. We did not pay the fee so the owner ignored us for the rest of the time we're there. The lighting in the rooms is horrible. Recessed ceiling lights shine in your face when your in bed. There is no lamps on the night stand. The WiFi in the rooms are almost non- existent.||FYI - We did get some cash out of the ATM down the street and Chase charged a flat fee of $5. Not sure what the limit is. $600 was too much. $300 was accepted.||Do stay here if you are proficient in Spanish and want a clean air conditioned room in a good location. El hotel Joya de la Selva en Tena es atendido por su dueño de manera permanente, el Sr. Fernando quienes muy cordial. A pesar de ser un hotel de gestión familiar, sus habitaciones tienen todas las comodidades de los muy buenos hoteles de cadena. Pisos y baño de moderno y agradable diseño con porcelanato, habitaciones amplias, cama somier muy grande, esa de trabajo y un muy buen wifi. |El área de desayuno es agradable.
