I stayed at this hotel at the beginning and end of an Imaginative Traveller tour of Egypt. Let me go through this 1 step at a time, I’ll cover location, entrance, room, restaurant, bar and staff; if you don’t have much time the short version is DON’T STAY HERE. ||Location, the hotel is in the back streets of Cairo, I would not recommend a woman on her own going out into the streets around this hotel, I’m not saying you will get assaulted but expect hassle, staring and shouting. ||Entrance, the hotel has a nice entrance and reasonable reception; the people on reception are friendly but have limited English. Do not exchange currency in the hotel the exchange rate was 40% worse than most banks.||Room, its shabby and when I mentioned being bitten the tour guide immediately got the room sprayed, this may suggest the hotel has a problem with fleas. The bathrooms vary in size but are in a poor state of repair. The beds, pillows and sheets should be replaced. If I had booked this tour, after seeing this room I would have upgraded straight away.||Restaurant, expect cheap and nasty the food in here may not give you food poisoning but it isn’t nice.||Bar, this is about 10m square, no natural light, but it is cheap.||Staff, the staff are friendly enough but their English is very limited so don’t expect to get any problems understood...
Read moreDecor wise this hotel is average but it makes up for it with the friendly and welcoming staff who work there. ||||The rooms are not amazing but are very clean and come with a fridge, air con and are a reasonable sized. They have clearly started to up date some of their rooms and I will be excited to see what they look like on a return visit. There is also free WiFi access in most parts of the hotel. ||||The bathroom is good, also kept very clean and the shower, although not the best I've ever used, does its job and that for me is all I need. ||||Breakfast is basic but there is the option of it being brought to your room. The staff are also friendly in there too and more than happy to provide you with fresh coffee when you arrive in the morning. There is also a bar which sells Stella, some spirits and soft drinks. ||||Location is good, it is easy to get a taxi to other parts of Cairo and there are few restaurants nearby (I highly recommend Steakout). There is a shop nearby that sells bottled water, soft drinks and snacks. If venturing out in a taxi I recommend taking a card from the hotel desk just in case you need help telling the taxi where to go on a return journey. ||||Overall this a decent hotel and one I would happily stay in again. It is clean and most importantly the staff...
Read moreSpent 4 nights pre-/posttour at Salma -tried 3 different rooms - not at all a pleasure!||Always something which did not work in the room, i.e the safe, the shower, the toilet, the lights. Couldnt be botered to ask to change rooms, as other in the group reported about moved out from one where the toilet didnt flush, to one where the toilet didnt refill after flushing......||All 3 rooms we stayed at had dirty carpeted floors. All smelled very funny/badly||The hotel is located far away from everything of interest - no metro nearby, not really walking distance to tourist sights.||Taxi drivers dont know where it is, and even with address in Arabic you will end up at the nearest bigger street. Which is okay when you don`t have anything to carry, but not very convenient when you arrive with bags.||The breakfast were acceptable - other meals not tried||The hotel boast to be "the friendly hotel in Cairo" - staff was okay, but not...
