My family and I spent New Year's here and had made a reservation for more a couple of days. Unfortunately, customer service was not what we wished for; rude owners (might have been the alcohol and hangover, but still! No excuse). Comaoning out loud for asking for more sugar, a bigger cup of coffee and being charged for breakfastS when they are normally included simply because you are a foreigner is inexcusable. Not being able to bring your complaints to management makes it inconvenient since you are dealing with owners and family staff. Room was full of spider webs, musky smell, refrigerator at suite was not turned on by our check in, no towels were provided and the list goes on. Hot water and running water needs to be asked for (meaning they will shut it off due to some pipe excuse). Having to ask for water to be turned on is a hassle to me. Never again! My mother being diabetic and hypertensive has a special diet. Lady owner and cook does not provide choices of meals. No salt or low sodium meals are a No no here. If you have a good allergy, they do not care. You eat what they provide. Definitely not good for people who like to make independent choices on food. You want eggs, no choice of scramble, sunny side up will be given. You eat what they take you. Ataco is a beautiful Salvasorean town with great climate and amazing views! Hostal San Fernando is located near the plaza but there are nicer hostals near by (well maintained, clean, newer and prices are...

POSITIVES- Fernando was very welcoming, available to give tips and advice to help with activities and gave us his WhatsApp to call if we needed anything. Fernando's mum is a cute elderly el Salvadorian woman that potters around outside and in the kitchen, she doesn't speak English but she's adorable and willing to help if she can. Very peaceful & quiet, filtered hold / hot water and kitchen available. Room was a reasonable price. Given a key to the room and to the locked front gate to come and go as we please. Felt safe and secure.
NEGATIVES- shower was hit and miss with warm water, the small outdoor pool currently not working, rooms had fans but would have been even better if Aircon, free breakfast advertised from 8-10 but when we asked at 9:45 they said the chef had already gone, no other guests there when we went so not a big social scene if you were a solo traveller. Room felt quite dark as it had a shutter as a window so no real natural light unless that was open.
Overall- we were pretty fatigued from travelling for last 6 weeks so we stayed around the hostel chilling alot, we appreciated the peace and quiet and help from friendly host, rooms are pretty basic but do the job and it's one of the cheaper places to stay in Ataco which...
Read moreOur tour guide recommended this hostel as we went on a 2 day road trip together. We stayed in a musty room behind the front the desk. It was a basic room with hot water shower. Tv worked and wifi was strong which is good. We are backpackers so we just wanted something basic to rest our heads. We paid $35 Us for the night which included a yummy traditional breakfast. We didn't hear much noise but we had the Ac blasting which was a nice noise machine.||||Fernando the owner was friendly, helpful and made sure we were happy. The garden and court yard are so beautiful as there is a big selection of plants. It was nice. There is also a newer section of the hotel in the back ||Our 5 yr old will never forget the bunny they have on site, Mr. Moustache who he played with. Thank you for your...
