We mainly chose this hotel because of its relatively low price compared to other ones in / near Paris. We stayed there for 4 nights and payed ~280 EUR. You get what you pay for, although a bit less than what you'd get in other countries / places.
Check-in was quick and comfortable, staff spoke good english. Room was reasonably clean; the bathroom was quite small (door barely opened because of the toilet being in the way). One issue was the water which had a strong chlorine smell and taste to it. The "twin bed" was actually two single beds pushed together. Not that comfortable; beds kept separating and we constantly fell in the hole that was created by that.
One major advice before going to eat breakfast: leave your room 10 min earlier as you will be stuck waiting for the elevator / in the elevator itself (very slow; stops at random floors). The next obstacle you'll encounter is Éric. This older man tries to do his best to keep you from entering the breakfast area, if you're only half a minute late (breakfast "officially" ends at 10.00 AM). This is especially weird when other hotel personnel tries to tell him it's still okay to go there at 10.01. He just doesn't care. At least we were given some croissant and coffee from the bar by other staff. If you somehow manage to pass Éric, the breakfast itself isn't too overwhelming. Two kinds of ham and cheese, some bread and croissants, yoghurts. Sadly no opportunity to get fresh omelettes. For this price it's okay.
The hotel is near (5-10min walk) a tram station. This was our only option as we were visiting during a transit strike. As Gentilly is outside of Paris, you should count in some time to get to the center / touristic areas.
The people working at the reception are really helpful when it comes to helping one out, for example when you're in need of a taxi / Uber. Side note: ask for prices before getting inside a taxi; drivers try to scam their clients at any cost (ex.: 150 EUR / 25min drive).
In conclusion, the hotel was okay for the pricing. As already stated, you'd get more in other cities / countries, but it was fair for Paris during Christmas. And please,...
Read moreAbout 20 mins on the metro to the Louvre. It's not in the buzzing part of Paris but if you spend the day sightseeing and just use it as a base for sleeping, you should be fine. From Charles De Gaulle airport, catch the RER to Chatalet Les Halles and change to metro line 7 (pink) towards Mairie d'Ivry. Get off at Porte d'Italie. The change at Chatalet involves about 600m walking and stairs so only do this if you are prepared to walk with all your luggage. It will cost 10 Euros. Otherwise, get the roissybus to Opera and get the metro striaght to Porte d'Italie which costs about 13 Euros. It is quiet but there are shops, bakery, supermarket and cafes about 15 mins walk away. Lady at reception was not friendly but I expected that. Jump on the metro for 1.8 Euro per trip within the central Paris area - this should be sufficient for most main sights except Palace Versailles. The room is small but clean. They only give you 2 towels and a bathmat. They give you 2 large bottles and liquid soap so bring your own soap or loufah if you like bubbles/lather. The bed is a really slim mattress but is surprisingly comfortable. Pillows are ok. They wrap 2 plastic cups with glad wrap which seems a bit wasteful, I didnt use them. There are no tissues so bring your own or make do with the recycled toilet paper. The hotel is situated on a busy road but the double windows block out the noise. Air conditioning works fine. The view is of a cemetary. There are coathangers, a small table amd some storage space. You can walk to the metro via Kellarman park but it is closed around 7 or 8pm at night so you will have to walk all the way around. There are buses but I didnt catch them. The twin room was sufficient for 2 adults but max luggage space is 2 medium...
Read moreA short walk from Gentilly Metro station downhill through clean streets, well lit areas, the Ibis Porte d 'Italie stands alongside a through road, and is not very well sign posted. Upon approaching the exterior looks a little dated and the reception appears a little dark. Having read poor reviews during travel, we were pleasantly surprised, that once into reception, that it opened up into an intimate bar area and extending down into a longer eating area. Reception staff, although busy were accommodating and we were quickly given our room key and on our way. The lift was quick, it was clean, we had a room on the third floor, although dated, it was clean, contained everything we needed for a brief stay, including an all in one built in wardrobe, seat and desk space. It also had a long mirror, double bed, hair dryer, free bathroom toiletries, to which my husband said they were very pleasant. However, we felt that the room lacked coffee making facilities. We chose to have breakfast two out of three days, it was a reasonable Paris cost, with lots of varieties of breakfast on offer from cold meats, cheeses, to bakery items to hot breakfast items and cereals. The restaurant was bright, clean, plenty of seating options, staff looked busy and the food was of a good quality. I would say that this was the best part of our stay. The bar area in an evening was pleasant, chilled and the residents all looked to be relaxed. Altogether, we had a four star stay. The reasonable priced hotel on the outskirts of Paris exceeded my expectation after reading previous poor reviews. the staff are hard working and pleasant. Thank you for...
