Do not stay here if you want any sort of peace and tranquility. Our 5 day stay here was really disappointing which is a shame as we were so excited for our stay. Our 2BR suite sat right above maybe the loudest street in Gustavia sitting right above a hill. Given the small cars and motor bikes of St Barts your entire stay all you here is loud revving of these engines.. constantly.. providing no peace and feeling like your room is above a 3rd world country. Remember there is no communal pool so you virtually have no where to escape as your personal pool is too loud to lounge at. Really only option is to sit at the restaurant all day.
We stayed closer to the street as the hotel is supposedly walking to Gustavia. Although it seems this way it really only is if you are young. If you are say +50 the hill is too steep and the hotel says they cannot provide a transfer just 100 meters down the hill. What we found odd is they will for some guest and others not.. Depending on their mood. Very strange. Even the drivers said they could but then front desk on occasions said no. So you're told to call a taxi to go a mere 100 meters which feels completely illogical.
Note we are not hard people to please and this is the first time we have left a hotel disappointed. We felt there was a complete lack of transparency in not disclosing how loud it was in this room. We wouldn't stay in that room again even if it was half the rate. Which would be $1800 USD per night instead of the $3,600 on average we paid. To make matters worse we learned from a couple at the beach they were provided a complimentary upgrade from a 1BR to a high level 2BR on their check in. Which although appreciative they laughed they didn't understand why as they had no need for the 2BR. Why wouldn't you offer that to our group of 3 that you know is on the loud street and celebrating multiple occasions?.. we would have even just payed for it if the severity of the loudness was disclosed. Mind boggling from whoever is running room bookings.
Service was mostly good with breakfast being a little slow (Given its a 5 star hotel). But there were some stand outs with the restaurant team at night being amazing. We will miss the bartender Rudy. & a handful of other kind people with even our cleaning lady being such a gem. Concierge was mostly good as well but as you would expect at a 5 Star and at the room rate.
I see this hotel has mostly good reviews but I imagine they are for the rooms closer to the top. Leaving this to give a heads up for future guest and/or hopefully the hotel starts to disclose the noice at the bottom and thereafter prices those rooms appropriately which should be at a...
Read moreAs many have stated already, we too have traveled extensively and this rivals any high end luxury hotel stay we have experienced across the globe.
From the pre arrival communication through to the final interaction of the airport drop off, the team and the experience at Le Carl Gustaf far exceeded any expectation we had.
The rooms and hotel are impeccably designed and furnished. Incredible detail given to provide both European and American outlets throughout in comfortable and sizable accommodations. Automatic lighting and switches that make the automation easy to understand and use with intuitive icons on each button. Pillow menu to memory foam pads by the bed at turndown were a luxurious touch. The bathroom and products luxurious and comfortable.
The view from the room and restaurant rivals any view in all of Gustavia. The landscape throughout has been expertly curated. The service was exceptional. Anything you wanted or needed, there for you in a flash and managed to be present, but never intrusive of overbearing.
The food was very good. I think has the ability to be great, but overall very pleased with the food options and quality of food and ambiance.
Many would hesitate due to not being direct beach front, but access to shell beach just a short walk, although a steep hill and many stairs, was more than sufficient to satisfy that desire and with each room having a plunge pool, may not even want to leave the luxurious accommodations.
Overall, the totality of our experience ranks among the best hotel experiences we have ever encountered in all of our global 5 star travel. Every detail you could imagine or dream, has been expertly executed and we would highly recommend this hotel for their superior accommodations, impeccable service and location for anyone looking for a truly luxurious stay in St Barths.
They simply get it. Many high end hotels claim to understand luxury and service and this hotel and team epitomize it better than most.

Read moreWe do not usually leave reviews online, but felt compelled to here because of how much we enjoyed our brief stay at Le Carl Gustaf in Gustavia on our trip to St. Barths. The hotel rooms are incredible —design and amenities are pure luxury— and the service rivals that of the best hotels anywhere in the world. After a hectic airport experience, the hotel’s courtesy car driver, Baptiste, was awesome (made a special trip back to the airport for us so we could get our bags that did not arrive with our flight). Clara, at check-in, was also phenomenal and made check-in a breeze by seating us out on their beautiful terrace to enjoy a complimentary welcome cocktail (which was also first class) while she did all of the check-in work. ||||The view and experience of sitting on their terrace over-looking Gustavia was a truly special way to begin our St. Barths vacation. Our room at Le Carl Gustaf was perhaps the nicest hotel room we’ve ever stayed in (a tier above Ritz, Four Seasons and other luxury brands) with a large private deck and pool also overlooking Gustavia and Shell Beach below. If you are harbored in Gustavia and looking to spend a few nights off of your boat, I truly could not imagine anyplace better.||||Tom at the spa gave a great massage and Clemence who was at the front desk during the day was also very friendly and helpful in getting us checked-out and arranging our transportation. We had already made arrangements to move to another hotel for our trip, but found ourselves wishing we had booked more nights at Le Carl Gustaf… Clara at Le Carl Gustaf actually called friends she had at our next hotel and told them we were coming and had them come say hi to us, which was a really great touch and just shows her over-and-above approach to hospitality.||||We loved our time at Carl Gustaf so much we will definitely be going back (and actually will go back before we leave St. Barths) for sunset cocktails because we...
