We stayed in chambre jaune which is advertised as a triple (double plus child's bed). It's at the top of the house, in the attic, on the second floor. |The property is very old and has a lovely wooden staircase with lots of objects and knick knacks perched along the way and unique pieces of furniture throughout which compliments and makes this property very individual. | |The bedroom itself is reasonably large by European standards with a good sized ensuite bathroom & separate wc. The doors to the toilet cubicle and the bathroom consist of a frame with chicken wire with a piece of thin backing material to aid privacy. Neither are soundproof! |Care is needed in the bathroom with the low eves and rafter/ beam across the bath. ||Lots of towels provided, soap, bath and shower gel and a hairdryer.|Tea/coffee facilities, iron and board in the bedroom which is rare, plus a complimentary bottle of water.|The bedding was clean and crisp and we had a comfortable stay. ||The only thing I would point out is that the child's bed is situated on a mezzanine level, up a steep ladder with no handrail but has a gate at the top. It is basically in the roof within the rafters. I climbed up to look and it was fairly dangerous getting up and down and there is not much space to stand up. |Possibly suitable for an older child but supervision would be recommended to get down safely. ||We didn't opt for breakfast but it is priced at 10 euros per person, served in a lovely metal framed conservatory. ||Parking is free and secure within the yard and the gate is locked overnight. |Check-in is 4pm to 8pm and does not appear to be negotiable. We arrived early, drove in and parked in the yard, went to the door but no one was there so we went off to explore the village. Upon our return, the property was still locked so after walking around the interiors shop opposite, we sat on the bench outside and waited. Didn't realise at that point that the owner was in the interiors shop but she would have been able to see us loitering around the premises for half an hour. Possibly she could have come out of the shop early as there was another lady at the counter and it was fairly obvious from our overnight bag that we would be staying there.|Anyhow when she did come out at 4pm on the dot, she was friendly and showed us to the room. ||Good location to explore the village and some nice restaurants and bars to choose from...
Read moreThis chambre d'hotes is ideally situated just within the walls of the historic village of Guerande. It's a large old house with a gated courtyard which serves as a secure car park. The house is tastefully adorned with very French antiques and "knick knacks". A few of these artefacts have been placed on the stairs leading up to the rooms so be aware when you're carrying your cases up - they're an accident waiting to happen, it would be very easy to stumble on one and fall. ||||The room we had was comfortable and clean and our window overlooked the courtyard. The bathroom was bit odd in that it had glass panelled French doors with nothing but a net curtain to preserve your modesty whilst doing your "ablutions" The shower was pretty useless as there was no shower curtain or splash panel of any kind, so you have to sit or kneel in the bath to get showered to prevent the placed being flooded. When we first ran the water here it came out a sludgy brown colour which was a bit off-putting but it soon cleared after about 30 secs or so. ||||Breakfast was a tad expensive at €10 per person for what was on offer - lukewarm coffee, juice, bread. I was offfered an egg which I accepted and that's what I got - a single overcooked lonely fried egg on a large plate. ||||If you like out of the ordinary places then this B&B would be a recommendation, but if you prefer everything to work and modern decor then maybe not. I'd have scored it a bit higher if a little more thought had gone into a few things such as the bathroom and the placing of things on the stairs as this could be a very nice B&B if a few issues were addressed. The price of the meagre breakfast needs to be...
Read moreLa Guerandiere is one of "those" places which can only be described as "bijou". The town, Guerande, is a picturebook , mainly intact, ancient moated and walled town in Brittany, famous for its delicious sea salt panning industry.||||La Guerandiere is a 19th c. house, with lovely, peaceful flower-filled garden, set just inside the gates of the walls, a 3-minute walk from just about everywhere inside the walled "old" town. Rooms are charmingly decorated and "quaint". (our room even provided an iron!) There is a comforatable and welcoming "library" room (complete with "help-yourself" Nespresso machine, teas, jar of ginger biscuits...). Breakfast (not included in the room rate) is delicious and ample, complete with choice of eggs "as you like them".||||Staff are charming and helpful. The atmosphere here is "laid back" and totally, charmingly, relaxingly "civilized" in what, during the summer months is a very busy "day-tripper" town with many decent (mainly fish, of course!) restaurants and interesting shops. ...
