Trust all the other reviews. This is a mediocre hostel. It harkens back to the classic industrial strength French FUAJ facities I remember from years ago, but now it is older and stuff doesn't work. We had to change rooms because the first had lights out and a bathroom with standing water. The one we changed in to, at least the lights worked and it was clean, but it was nearly impossible to open the doors due to the ancient card readers, and the beds were scratchy and hard at best.||||The toilet room was comically small, it was about the size of a bathroom in economy section of an airplane. Not even enough room to turn around.||||The food was probably the worst part, I'll list exactly what they had: petit pain, jams/jellies, runny eggs, lousy bacon, corn flakes, pain chocolate, sliced turkey. That's it. Literally. It can't possibly have added up to more than €1.50 per person worth of food. I mean, they didn't even have Nutella, nor a baguette, nor regular croissants, nor toast, nor more than 1 egg style, nor beans, nor oatmeal, really nothing to make the breakfast slightly worth it.||||The girl working as a receptionist when we arrived was also completely disinterested, you could tell we were annoying her by interrupting her video streaming.||||As for the social aspects, the place was dead. There were no games, no badminton net and equipment to borrow, no football nets, no table tennis, no public area to socialize, just nothing. Completely dead in terms of socialization. There also didn't seem to be hardly anyone there in spite of the French schools already being out and vacation season should have started.||||Regarding the WiFi, it was barely usable in terms of speed, for example my photo upload never finished even leaving it all night. Also it was set up wrong, the AP nearest our room was broadcasting a network with Strasbourg misspelled as Strasboug so clearly they didn't put that much effort in to it. You had to join again of course if you need to use that AP. ||||Finally, the price. Look, I could see past everything I wrote above if this was cheap hostel prices. But it wasn't €10/bed. It was a total of €76/night for the room. For that price, I can do MUCH better with a hotel or B&B or really anything else.||||To the FUAJ Strasbourg, either improve your facility and your offerings if you want to charge these prices, or drop your prices down to €10 or €15 per night to line up with what you are offering. You aren't a budget travel place currently, but you also aren't delivering a more...
Read moreWe just spent 5 days in this hostel with our school and the experience was horrible. When we got off the bus we were immediately greeted by a stinky smell that was a mixture of chlorine and poop. After checking in, we checked our rooms. In three rooms there were living moths, the lockers were of very poor quality and almost fell over when you touched them. In our room, the water tap in the bathroom had a stuck thermostat, which we immediately reported to the staff and they promised to fix it the next day, but they did nothing even after two more requests. Also, the design of the water tap was so bad that you had to press a button very hard to get water and then the water would run for 1-10 seconds before hitting the button again, which was completely random. The windows only opened 5cm. When we asked the staff why, they replied that it was for safety reasons to stop people climbing on the roof. But after a little discussion the staff agreed to remove the lock if we didn't get out. After opening the windows, we immediately noticed the foul smell from the nearby sewage treatment plant. As for the showers... There was mould everywhere, from the bottom to the top, and the water from the shower head wasn't distributed like a normal shower head, but was a very hard jet, which was very uncomfortable if you wanted to take a shower. When we took a shower, we had to press the button on the shower every 5 seconds if we didn't want the water to stop. If another person in the room flushed the toilet at the same time, the water in the shower was just hot water and you would burn yourself. Water came out not only from the shower head but also from the side of the temperature control knob. In summary I would strongly avoid this hostel as it is just disgusting and the quality of the rooms is so bad that the high price for this bad hostel...
Read moreWhile looking for an overnight stay, we specifically searched for a room with a fridge and freezer as a must-have, due to important biological medications we were carrying that require cold storage. We booked this property the same day at 4PM via Hotels.com, where the room listing clearly stated under Room Amenities that a fridge was included.||||Upon arrival, we were surprised to find no fridge in the room. We immediately returned to the front desk (around 6PM) to clarify, only to be told by the receptionist that she could not help us because she hadn’t handled our reservation. She said we would have to wait until 10PM to speak with someone else if we wanted to switch rooms. When I explained that this was not acceptable after driving for 12 hours and needing to wake up at 5AM, her response was, and I quote:||||“10PM is not late, you can wait. Why do you need to go to sleep?”||||When I asked to speak to the hotel manager, she disappeared for about 20 minutes and returned only to tell us that there was not a single room with a fridge in the entire hotel and she didn’t know why we were asking for one. I pointed out that the room was clearly advertised with a fridge on Hotels.com, but she simply repeated there was no such room and offered the use of a shared kitchen refrigerator instead. I explained that I couldn’t risk placing sensitive injections in a shared fridge, and requested a refund. Her response:||||It’s not possible. You can either stay or leave.||||Adding to the disappointment, the room was filthy. Within 5 minutes of walking barefoot, our white socks turned black. The bathroom and toilet floors were even worse.||||In summary, false advertising, disrespectful service, unsanitary conditions, and complete lack of support for a medically sensitive need.||I strongly recommend...
