Regular readers of my reviews on here (and I have no idea why you would be) will know that I recently stayed at another Ibis (the Ibis Styles Croydon) and had a terrible time. Really amazingly terrible. Indeed, it was the worst place I have ever stayed. Anywhere. In the world. The Ibis Budget Hotel Vannes Ploeren is also an Ibis hotel - and that's where the comparisons stop. ||||Let's be honest, when I walked up to the Ibis Budget, Vannes Ploeren, I had incredibly low expectations. Firstly, it's a budget hotel and secondly I'd stayed in that place in Croydon (an Ibis Styles hotel which is, apparently, two notches up the Ibis chain to this Ibis Budget). Here is how it went...||||When we checked in to the Ibis Budget Vannes Ploeren, we were met with the nicest, happiest, most helpful receptionist you could ever hope to meet. She was lovely. Our little one was tired and feeling unwell, she made a fuss of him and made him feel welcome - getting a tired and unwell 6 year old boy to smile, laugh and chat is a skill! The check in was simple and, in those few seconds, I completely forgot about all my worries about the place.||||But then I realised that our room was near the reception on the ground floor. My immediate thought was that it would be noisy - we were staying on the same day that the Tour de France was in town and there were two groups from the Caravanne staying at the same hotel - the team from Festina and the team from Mickey Mag. Just a quick special mention to them both. The Festina team saw our son as we arrived and fussed over him - they were great. The Mickey Mag team and the Festina team saw us at breakfast - they were both lovely to him. They are both a credit to their respective companies. But I digress!||||So, we went to our room. A big bed, two single beds, a bathroom and a tv - all present and correct. Towels, fresh linen. One small bar of soap - I didn't even mention it but if I had, I know they would have done something but they were lovely and they were busy so I wasn't going to bother them. Yes, there were a couple of tiny bits that were a tiny bit tired but nothing major at all. It was all spotlessly clean.||||We opened the door to let some cool air in and we could hear the big road that ran past the hotel. My mind went back to the noise. However, let's scroll forward to bedtime - door closed & people in reception - no noise. A great, quiet night's sleep! The mattresses were comfy too.||||Plenty of hot water for baths and showers in the morning. The towels were nice.||||Breakfast - are you listening Croydon? - breakfast was lovely and it was cheaper than Croydon. Fresh bread. Fresh croissants. Decent coffee. Jams. Honey. Cereals. Fruit. Fruit juices. A really good hot chocolate. 6€ and a few cents from memory.||||Check out was almost non-existent - it was actually a chat with the staff. ||||I'll say it again. The staff there are fantastic, providing a superb service that is friendly, welcoming and warm - everything that is great about Ibis. They're the best. In fact, I had no plans to visit the area again but we've already decided that we will and we've already decided that we will stay here. For the level of service, for the quality of the room and sleep, for the staffing and for the breakfast, this is possibly the best value hotel I have...
Read moreWe had booked this Ibis hotel as we had a very positive experience in another Ibis hotel in Grenoble previously. However, our stay at this Ibis hotel last Saturday was very disappointing. There was a cockroach crawling in the bathroom in the evening and some little black hairs left in the bathtub; the toilet seat was broken. We found another cockroach 'sitting' on the bedding in the morning and found a pair of trainers (not ours) under one of the beds which suggested that the space under the bed was not cleaned after the previous guest! Breakfast was a bit of a disaster as all offered was packed with sugar - no healthier options available. Directions to a nearby restaurant for dinner given by staff suggested staff didn't really care as we would've never found the place - although only a couple of minutes drive away - without our SatNav. We will never stay at...
