Trip: Holiday with husband and mum-in-law. ||Staff: very friendly||Price: we paid the same price as a triple but got two doubles instead. Very nice of them seeing as they were not heavily booked at the time.||Facilities: N/A no lounge area but if you book a table in the steak restaurant downstairs I can guarantee you the best steak of your life (fillet med.rare = heaven) ||Wifi: strong||Breakfast: typical German breakfast of yoghurt then a plate of meats, cheeses and fresh bread, all of very good quality and they'll make you eggs if you can fit them in!Bed: comfy. Pillows and blankets are down and very warm. ||Bathroom: Standard. Shower/Toilet + Hairdryer||Towels: Standard||Location: 10 minutes walk from Clausthal central area. We didn't have a car and so just explored the local town on foot. A car would be better to have a proper look around. The big blue church is pretty impressive. ||Tea/coffee: yes - standard||Best thing: feeling welcome||Worst thing: not a big town. ||||Other comments:||On our first night we couldn't get in for dinner until later so we wandered around looking for a place to have a beer, the place over the road had a private function, the shops were closed and the only place open was a scary little cafe with an unwelcoming sour faced lady who begrudgingly served us. When I asked if they were open and could we sit down you would have thought I'd asked if they had any small dogs I could disembowel. I received a mixture of looks none of which were pleasant. Mum asked if she had any snacks or food we could buy "NO". ||Do yourself a favour and book into the restaurant when you book your room. It's busy and when you eat there,...
Read moreWe stayed two nights here, having booked on the strength of TA and other reviews, and it more than lived up to all the praise, good rooms, everything clean etc, no problems at all, but what really stood out was Uwe the owner, he's a star, as well as an excellent cook. We ate in their restaurant the first night, and it was very good indeed, but on our second night I felt like eating fish, I asked Uwe, but he hadn't anything on the menu. However, he suggested another place a few 100 metres away, and even phoned them to check that they had fresh trout, and to book a table for us, he couldn't have been more helpful, the place he recommended was very good as well, they too were very welcoming. We've visited Germany many times and love the place, though of course, we never mention the...
Read moreI stayed at this hotel whilst I was in Clausthal doing some family research. It is located right across the park from Oberharzer Bergwerks Museum, which I wanted to visit. ||On arrival I was met by the owner and shown to my room, which was really great and looked out over the park over the road. It had been snowing lots, so it was a great view. ||The room had a king bed, lots of room for sitting and a great ensuite. ||Downstairs is a restaurant but the nights that i stayed it didnt open, which was a shame as it has a good reputation, as a steak house.||I would definatley stay here again when I return to do more research one day. It is walkable to most things in Clausthal, shops, restaurants and attractions.||The breakfast available was...
