Hotel Karl Noss — Hotel in Cochem

After getting off at Cochem train station from Bonn/Koblenz, I turned right and walked straight ahead for a good 20 mins before reaching hotel as I had luggage on wheels to drag and the small wheels from the latest spinner luggage system is hard to drag on cobble-stoned and unpolished-squarish granite ground. Without luggage, it’d take 12-15 mins to walk to Karl Noss hotel, I tested the latter’s time. ||||I chose the hotel because it was number 1 at TripAdvisor when booking.||||Fantastic location, just 15-min ascent to the Reichsburg castle from Karl Noss hotel. Just 3-min walk to St Matin’s Catholic Church. A Singaporean couple actually had their wedding held at Cochem and they, and their family members also stayed at Karl Noss Hotel in 2017. ||||I was surprised to meet Karl Noss himself. He also gave me a map of Cochem and some useful pamphlets in English.||||Initially, I was little uncomfortable when told that I was staying in a guest house, some 100m from the hotel. However, upon arriving at the guest house, all my initial worry and feeling of uncertainty vanished, I was happy that I did not need to lug my luggage up the stairs (note that this hotel doesn’t have a lift-try to ask for ground floor rooms if you have big luggage)and it had a picturesque view of the Mosel River, the houses along the other bank, the mountain and the ferry. ||||Room’s design was not the modern, white, grey, beech wood (earth tone) kind but it was warmer in style, the typical European style. It was clean and bathroom was big. Lighting was sufficient. Samsung TV - all German channels, hairdryer, 2-way mirror, handsoap , shower cream/shampoo for gents/ladies, body lotion, tissue papers (it is not a norm that 3-star accommodations in Europe to provide tissue papers), one bottle of complimentary drinking water, sweets on pillows and at least 6 power points were found in the room. Room was a little cold at night though. Free wifi but signal was not strong, so I had to use my data plan occasionally. To Asians, note that room does not have a kettle, complimentary coffee/tea and toothbrush sets. Guests can, however, buy drinks, beer and wine from a huge fridge in living room in the guest house. The only “hiccup” in the room was that pillows were too flat, I felt as if I were sleeping on a t-shirt.||||Breakfast was served from 7.30am (unsure when it ended) , for a 3-star hotel, the choice and variety was surprisingly good! There were different kinds of cheese, ham, bread, buns, cakes (creamy ones and non-creamy ones), milk, lactose-free milk, different kinds of cornflakes, eggs cooked in 2 different ways, pancakes, fruits, coffee, tea, juice etc. Of course, can’t compare with breakfast at Grand Hyatt Erawan in Bangkok that my friends and I took in Jan 2019 as Grand Hyatt is 5-star but the sumptuous breakfast in Karl Noss can easily be classified as breakfast served in a 4-star hotel. What more, at Karl Noss, I got the River Mosel view and view of the ship while taking my breakfast. ||||3 areas that I love about Karl Noss Hotel : ||||1. Convenient Location ||2. We stayed at the Hotel Karl Noss for four days in May ’18. Loved it. Perfect location, overlooking the Mosel, below the Reichsburg (castle) and near central Cochem with all of its shops and restaurants. Great view of the promenade and the river traffic.

The hotel itself is nice, the room was comfortable and the restaurant was friendly and had a nice menu. The food was simple and very good. Our room had a huge balcony with comfortable furniture and a million-dollar view. Perfect for unwinding with a beer or glass of wine after a long day of touring.

Above all, the staff was GREAT. Friendly, helpful and attentive. They provided excellent recommendations, and sound advice all around. When I had trouble with my rental car, they volunteered to call the company for assistance, and made an appointment with a local garage who quickly took care of the problem. Ich war zu einem Kurzurlaub in Cochem und ein Einzelzimmer mit Moselblick gebucht.Die Abwicklung ging online sehr einfach und problemlos. Die Mitarbeiter sind alle sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit,da gibt es nichts zu meckern.Auch das Frühstücksbuffet ist okay,alles reichlich vorhanden.Im Wintergarten hat man beim Frühstück einen schönen Blick auf die Mosel und die Ausflugsschiffe an den Anlegern direkt vorm Hotel.Die Einrichtung des Speisesaales ist schön,man fühlt sich dort wohl. Das Haus ist schon älter,die Stufen der Treppe knarzen schon sehr. Vor allem spät abends ist das deutlich zu hören. Mein Zimmer war im 3.Stock,zuerst muss man ein Stockwerk die Treppe hoch,dann gibt es einen Fahrstuhl bis zur 3. Etage und anschließend geht es nochmal einige Stufen nach oben. Mit schwerem Koffer ist das ganz schön anstrengend. Auch für ältere Menschen oder Personen mit Gehbehinderung ist es nicht ganz einfach,den Weg zum Zimmer und wieder nach unten zu bewältigen. Mein Zimmer selbst war sehr klein,für eine Person aber ausreichend.Das Bett war allerdings ziemlich schmal und ich hatte Angst herauszufallen. Auch fand ich die Matratze zu weich. Das Kopfkissen war eine Zumutung.Total klumpig,man konnte gar nicht richtig darauf liegen. Gegenüber vom Bett war ein kleines Sofa,das sah zwar ganz nett aus,allerdings war der Stoff teilweise sehr fleckig,da habe ich mich nicht darauf gesetzt. Das Bad war ebenfalls sehr klein. Ich bin groß und von kräftiger Statur,da hatte ich kaum Platz,mich auf die Toilette zu setzen. Die Dusche war auch klein,mit Duschvorhang. Das alles war ja noch soweit ok,aber ich hatte große Probleme mit dem Warmwasser.Als ich am ersten Tag duschen wollte,wurde das Wasser überhaupt nicht warm. Am nächsten Tag musste ich das Wasser eine halbe Stunde laufen lassen,bis es endlich warm wurde.Der Duschkopf hatte auch nur sehr wenig Wasser durchgelassen und zudem spritzte es noch in alle Richtungen. Sich ordentlich die Haare nach dem Waschen auszuspülen war eine Herausforderung.Auch habe ich Haken vermisst,um Handtücher aufzuhängen. Es war eine kurze Handtuchstange angebracht,die war aber so eng an der Wand,da konnte man das Handtuch kaum darüber hängen. Für das zweite Handtuch,das ich für die Haare benutzt hatte,gab es gar keine Aufhängemöglichkeit.Da gäbe es bestimmt noch einiges zu verbessern. Die Lage des Hotels direkt am Moselufer war super. Altstadt,Lokale,die Reichsburg-alles auf kurzen Wegen fussläufig zu erreichen. Geparkt hatte ich auf Parkplätzen hinter dem Bahnhof. Das waren dann zwar ein paar Hundert Meter zu laufen,dafür habe ich aber pro Tag nur 3€ Parkgebühren bezahlt.Das war deutlich günstiger als die anderen Parkplätze.
