I went to Gera for a five day business trip and I'd like to give the hotel a "in between 2 and 3 stars" rating. I'm explaining it list-style: the hotel price is okay there are many restaurants, some sights, stores, the train station and a hiking/running opportunity right outside the door - so even for a business trip when you have little time you have time for some activity the breakfast buffet (used every day) the evening bar service (tried once) That's it for the positive, let's head to the neutral aspects. o staff is obviously trained very differently, therefore you have competent and incompetent/disinterested hotel workers there o while for the most part maintained well enough you can tell that the hotel has aged - furniture is dated, grazed carpet floor, yellowed wallpaper and so on o parking is a hit and miss with few free and or time-limited spots and the adjacent garage costing around 9 € per 24 hours Let's head for the negative, which really should have brought it down to 2 stars (avoidable!): when arriving staff was not explaining as to why I had to present my credit card and run it through the card reader and was uneasy when I asked staff answered the question if I can pay now and get the bill on Thursday eve - one day before departure - very impudently that it's only possible to get it Friday (I got it Thursday of an aforementioned more competent and friendly employee) they offered regular room prices but excluded house keeping and the free bottle of water a day "due to COVID-19" yet they had a price: 19 € per room cleaning - infuriating within that context: they had no problem featuring a buffet with everybody touching the cutlery to serve themselves the buffet items but the bottled water wasn't okay internet was almost 54k modem like BUT you had the option to pay 7,90 € per 24 hours - are we living in the 20th or 21st century? Absolute rip-off. It once took 8 minutes to load in my e-mails with the free Wi-Fi workers do not enforce their own COVID-19 house rules of wearing a face mask the magnet key cards are a joke and tend to fluke when it comes to opening doors damaged shower head holder damaged furniture no outlets around the bed, really only one outlet to trust at the desk I think I am finished and that should draw a rather clear picture, where the hotel failed. It is the ongoing situation with COVID-19 and how some enterprises take advantage of it. But even without that, I would have given...
Read moreThe large "penta suite" has two adjacent rooms, one with a large queen size bed, the other with two couches that can be used as beds, too. Both have large flatscreen TVs that could connect with our mobile phones, so we could watch Netflix while our toddler was fast asleep "next door". Mattresses are a little on the stiff side of things. Each room of the large suite has their own bathroom. The included soaps and stuff in the bathrooms were nothing to write home about but would suffice if one would forget their own supplies. The direct access to the parking garage via the elevator was a nice touch. Central Air conditioning worked quietly and efficiently, but is switched off by default when you first enter your room.Everything was very clean, albeit a little " lived in". The food we ordered to out room was pricey but very good. The staff was very friendly and helpful with anything we as a family with a toddler might need - much more friendly than you normally encounter in this city's service industry and it's usually very direct,...
Read moreI recently stayed at the Mercure Hotel and had an exceptional experience. The breakfast was a highlight of my stay, offering a wide variety of delicious and fresh options each morning. It was the perfect way to start my day.
Additionally, I had an unfortunate incident where I left some clothes in the cabinet after checking out. The hotel staff went above and beyond by promptly locating my belongings and arranging to have them sent to me via courier at a very reasonable cost. Their attentiveness and willingness to assist were truly commendable.
I also brought my dog along, as the hotel is pet-friendly. We were warmly welcomed with snacks for my dog and a cute bowl for water, which made our stay even more comfortable and enjoyable.
Overall, I highly recommend Mercure Hotel for its excellent service, fantastic breakfast, pet-friendly accommodations, and exceptional customer care. Thank you for making our stay memorable and...
