It is an incredibly pretty location and the hotel is a heritage property worth one visit for sure. One star accounts for sub-standard service from some parts of the hotel even when some others delivered great service. It’s an old family run property, on the banks of an absolutely stunning lake. We stayed 2 nights and loved the location. Great views over the lake are something else indeed and the rooms were large and clean - albeit dated and rickety- the door knob of our bathroom gave up its struggle to work rather promptly. The staff at reception were outstanding at every point of contact - and I wonder how so many Georgians seem to be on the staff. We were on a 3/4 board package with breakfast dinner and a heavy snack between 3-430 which works well cos you can head out to the slopes and then get back in time for the snack which was a soup main course and some dessert. Our biggest let down was service in the restaurant which was inattentive and definitely not friendly. They frequently ran out of stuff and we spent a lot of time for people to replace/ refill the buffet. It was very disappointing to see the stuff you want, not reappear and then the person bringing it out after you’ve been standing for 15 mins grunt at you as if you’ve caused them some pain. My 7 year old was particularly miffed when she went back for a refill of a chocolate ice cream and what came back was lemon flavour!! “Chocolate over - come tomorrow “ was the patronising reply. The tavern was a different experience altogether - although if you think of this as fine dining it probably falls well short.
There are lots of antique articles all over the hotel which lends it a good touch. There is a large bath tub with heated water which is flaunted as the swimming pool. Spa is decent but overpriced and somewhat unfriendly. There is nothing nearby so unless you want to drive far the 1/2 or 3/4 board is a good deal. We did not take a car at all and all connections from our home in Berlin to the hotel and back worked beautifully via public transport so that was a good thing.
In short - go for the lake, it’s views, the hotel’s heritage ambience and the ski slopes which are accessible easily. Remember however that it’s pricey and you will jostle for a decent plate of food - after paying through your nose for it...and then they will bring you a bill for water or coffee that you drink which was a remarkably nasty touch to the 3/4...
Read moreThis place was one of the stops on our family trip to Bavaria. Getting there was quite an adventure, as it took us 50 minutes to cover the last 2 km by car. There was a huge traffic jam on the road, which is apparently a regular occurrence in this area. The hotel's location is wonderful! I've seen many, but this one is in my top 3! The afternoon snack was creative and enjoyable, and afterwards we immediately tried one of the main attractions, the beach. It's a beautifully designed place, with kayaks, canoes, SUPs, and water bikes, all of which are free to use. The water is pleasantly warm, around 24-24 degrees, and visibly crystal clear. The equipment can be used on the entire lake, as the lake is also owned by the hotel. A very pleasant program in the summer if you want total relaxation!
There was a planned boat trip on the lake in the afternoon, but it turned out that all the places were already taken. The staff organized another trip so that we wouldn't miss out! That's six-star service!
Dinner is buffet style, you only have to pay for drinks. The menu is varied and delicious! The service staff are friendly and intelligent, in keeping with the standard of the place. After dinner, we took advantage of the bicycles available for hire and cycled around the lake at sunset... With the Zugspitze in the background, it was a miracle!
The only serious negative point became apparent at night: the room advertised as a double bed was actually just two single beds pushed together, which slid apart in a second! This is unacceptable at this Hotel level! That's why I'm givin only 2 stars for the room!
In the evening, we took advantage of the excellent cocktail bar. Here we met Bence, the bartender, who mixes drinks incredibly well, chats with guests very intelligently and takes care of them! He is one of the people I would like to mention personally, the other being Damir, the Bosnian guy at the reception, who took care of everything for us in an incredibly friendly manner!
The breakfast was also perfect! There is a wide variety of food, eggs cooked to order, and everything is made from the highest quality ingredients! When we checked out, we were given bottled water for the road, which was a nice touch! In summary: a great hotel, super location and surroundings, very friendly staff, fine services!!! But the double bed, is...
Read morePerfect hotel in a beautiful, magnificent and unforgettable setting! The hotel itself is very comfortable, clean and strikes a nice balance between modern and countryside look. Our room was huge and the view from our balcony breathtaking. With our booking, we had breakfast, afternoon snack (between 2pm and 4pm) and dinner included. There was plenty of choice and the menu translated in English was a nice touch, since our German is very rudimentary. The food was very good, although we would have liked more available fruit (mainly during the afternoon snack and dinner, when no fruit was available). The staff is 5 stars, everyone was very professional but also welcoming and nice. There's an indoor heated pool, which must be great in colder months, and spa facilities, which we didn't try, because our main focus was the lake. There are also plenty of activities for kids, as we saw a kids club, the pool is kind friendly and there's even a cinema! The best thing was the lake. The hotel has a privileged location and the views are just amazing. The water is so clear and the colours so beautiful, you have to be there to fully understand what everyone means after visiting Eibsee. There are many sunbeds available for guests and the hotel provides free SUP and kayaks, which is a big plus. Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves with water sports and activities. There are also pedal boats (don't know if they're free or not, since you can also rent them nearby, but I think the hotel provides 2 for their guests). The hotel also arranged for a boat tour of the lake, and we had a package that included another one as well (in addition to an ice cream pass). We parked our car on the main parking lot near the Zugspitze cable car, as the hotel parking was unavailable, and we didn't have to pay anything, it was included with the reservation as well. Overall, we had an amazing time here, it's a beautiful, beautiful lake and hotel, a great value for money considering where you are and what you have included, a wonderful team (from the reception, to the restaurant, to the cleaning staff, everyone!), and you just possibly can't be disappointed. We drove almost 6 hours to get here (and back), and it was so worth it! Magical,...
