Not a 4-Star Hotel at all. If I could, I would give 0 stars.
Here an incomplete list of all the issues encountered during a 3-night stay: -slow check-in with relevant info missing -asked upfront (in writing) about early morning opening times of pool and sauna, which I intended to use in the morning prior to working from the hotel. Got information about times but no information that they need upfront information when one wants to use the sauna, so they can pre-heat it. Therefore I changed into my swimming costume just to find out the sauna was off and the pool area wasn't lit. Saving energy for environmental reasons is great, but how about informing your guests upfront? Especially if they specifically enquire about pool and sauna opening times upfront? Trying to contact the reception via the phone present in the pool area (as suggested by a sign saying 'in case the sauna is turned off...') was impossible as the phone was dead and not fixed during the three days. Non-working were also the infrared cabin and the dimmed lights in the sauna, nothing of it was ever repaired during the 4 days I stayed. -As you can guess by the time I had solved their phone issue (by changing back and going back to my room and calling the reception from there), as well as waited a couple of minutes for the personal to come down and another 20min for the sauna to heat up, it was time to get back to my room to start working. Great way to save energy! That way nobody will ever use the sauna... Well, a relaxed start into the day looks very different to me, as you can imagine... I could not find the wifi password in the room (neither any other information about breakfast times, sauna and pool opening times or the like as commonly present in better Hotels) and went upstairs to inquire about it. The woman stared at me and said: "You are a guest here?". What impolite behavior is that. Just wearing a fleece jacket instead of a suit seems to have made me a 2nd class guest. Having gotten the WiFi code, I did encounter a barely existing wifi, not even close to the data I need despite the fact that the website of the hotel praises itself for the great wifi. Might be the case elsewhere in the hotel, but definitely not in the room I stayed in (downstairs, last room of the long corridor, must've been nr. 107 or 109). Had to consume up my own data to be able to work... Great. Complaining about the situation, one staff did listen to me and said, just get back to us on this email address and I'll make sure you will get a reply. Sitting down and writing up all the issues, I didn't hear back anything for more than 10 days. Called them, oh, we didn't receive any email on that day from your side... I had forwarded the mail 2min prior to the call to same email address I used before and that email could be found by the woman on the phone. How unprofessional. Instead of admitting it had not been dealt with, I was later told it must've been arrived in the Spam folder. Strange, how did the 2nd email go through then?... To sum it up:
130€ per night plus an exorbitant Fee of 20€/night for my dog (max I did encounter before this was 12-15€) is for sure at least 80-100€/night more expensive what this alleged 4-star Hotel is worth paying for. I have had better customer service in Hostels. And despite putting much effort into contacting them (a best western form supposedly was not send out cause they expect a mm-tt-yyyy date format. Really? We are in Europe, not in the US) and letting them know about all the issues encountered they did reply with a luke warm"Ah, well. Ok. Sorry". No compensation for the rather stressful stay was offered, especially considering that I left the hotel in a more stressed state compared to that one I was in upon arrival.
Conclusion: I know which Hotel chain to avoid in the future and despite being in the area more often in the future I will for sure never spend another...
Read moreWe have been staying here in January 2021 for the Düsseldorf Boatshow with our team, when everything was just fine. At the time, it was City Class Savoy, now Best Western.
Because of our good experience, we booked again, for January 2022. However, because of Covid, the Boatshow was cancelled. We were told that we could not cancel our stay at the hotel, because we had not booked with a cancellation option, as we assumed that Covid would always allow us to cancel our booking.
But no, we had to pay three rooms, for 10 days, without any refund. After some discussions, we were offered a 30% rebate on a next stay, so, we booked again for January 2023, via email, early September '22. But 6 email messages (mostly reminders), and two months later, our request for the rebate, was still not granted.
This was what was finally offered to us in January 2022:
Nach Rücksprache mit der Direktion darf ich Ihnen mitteilen, dass wir die Buchung kostenpflichtig stornieren können. Eine kostenfreie Stornierung oder Änderung ist laut den Buchungsbedingungen nicht möglich. Wir bieten Ihnen jedoch gerne aus Kulanz bei einer neuen Buchung einen einmaligen Rabatt in Höhe von 30% auf die Tagesrate an.

After consultation with the management, I can inform you that we can cancel the booking for a fee. A free cancellation or change is not possible according to the booking conditions. However, as a gesture of goodwill, we are happy to offer you a one-time discount of 30% on the daily rate for a new booking.
The only thing that I can say is "shame on you" management of Best Western Haan". In the future, we will book our Boatshow...
