I've stayed at the Ratshotel about 6 times in 4 months. Located in the centre of Haltern am See, it’s a very convenient hotel for the central square and marketplace. I advise asking for a room a the back of the hotel. There is limited parking around the back of the hotel through the archway.||||The main distractions of the hotel are:||||- Bins - these are collected out front at 5am and they are noisy when doing so.||- Town hall bells and church bells. These don't stop until midnight and re-start at 7am - and they do chime every 15 minutes. It is very distracting and interrupts a night's sleep badly.||||The rooms are very spartan - a mix of small singles and a few doubles and basic furnishings. The heating needs careful setting otherwise you can fry. There is free wifi which is not overly fast.||||The hotel closes by 10pm at night, so check-in is essential before this time as there are no staff after this time and the restaurant also takes last orders early.||||Breakfast is also very basic with limited options and tea upon request. I'd recommend it for...
Read moreHaltern am See dates back to Roman days and is a lovely little town with a lot of atmosphere. The Ratshotel is located in Haltern's "Old Town" next to the town hall with it's Glockenspiel, just off the town square. The Ratshotel is a traditional building that has been renovated and it has all the comforts one could expect. ||We stayed for 10 days, our room (the only suite available) was spacious, comfortable and clean and the bathroom was newly renovated. The whole suite was cleaned on a daily basis, which included fresh bed linnen and towels daily!||A buffet breakfast is included in the price and the staff couldn't be more friendly and helpful.||On the ground level is a comfortable inn with a terriffic restaurant attached in a seperate dining area.||We have family in the area and stay at the Ratshotel every time we visit, we always invite the whole family for a farewell dinner at the Ratshotel, it doesn't break the bank; the menu is surprising and the food...
Read moreWe stayed for one night on a cycling tour and the facilities were fine for our purposes. Rooms spacious and functional - decent shower and good wi-fi. It even had a Bang & Olufsen TV! I think the place has recently had a spruce up judging by the paint odour in my room. Apart from the restaurant it’s really a place you seem to check in and there’s not much else on offer, your room key also gets you in the front door etc. We didn’t try the restaurant but I seem to recall it has a Michelin star so imagine very good but pricey accordingly. Breakfast was the normal stuff with some hot scrambled egg and bacon although quantities a bit mean and unless you get there early others would probably have eaten some of the things you might have chosen as didn’t seem to get the view that food was necessarily replaced. The secure bike storage was a bonus if that’s a consideration etc. As others have said the church bells whilst nice are not ideal for...
