Check in was ok. I arrived around 3pm on a Wednesday afternoon. I was told that I was being given an upgraded room as I am a Titanium member at Marriot properties. I got my room key and noticed that it was up on the 6th (top) floor. As I was riding up the elevator I got excited and thought perhaps it is some 'penthouse suite' being on the top floor and everything. Huge disappointment when I got to the room. The attached pictures will prove that this is a no big deal room. I was left scratching my head thinking what is the 'upgrade' about this room??? It is as bare bones as it gets. No closet to hang you clothes. The 'desk' (would be a huge stretch to call it a desk) if you are not careful, your laptop will fall off it. The bathroom was nice and most everything worked. The Toilet seat got wet each time I flushed the toilet. Gross !!! They do not provide any body lotion. I thought Housekeeping forgot to give me some and went to asked reception. They said that they do not provide any body lotion. Now what sort of a rinky dink outfit did Marriott come up with that does not offer body lotion?!?!? The AC left a lot to be desired. It did not matter what speed or temperature I put the settings on. It was either ON or OFF. Dont ask for anything more. Breakfast was a very nice spread. I had a good breakfast on both days I stayed here. Cant complain about that. Located within 5 minutes walk of a S-Bahn or U-Bahn station (Berliner Tor). Plenty of shopping and restaurants close by. Centrally located for Hamburg city. So that was very convenient. As an elite member of Marriott, what I got for the money at Moxy was sub par. I will be crossing Moxy of the list for future. All the neon lights outside, elevator that looks like a shipping container and so called 'trendy' decor does not do much when you have a complete bare bones room....
Read moreBefore arriving at the hotel, I had sent an email requesting a quiet room, and they kindly accommodated my request by assigning me a room on the 5th floor. My room was facing the street, and although there was road construction outside, the sound insulation was incredible – no noise entered the room at all.
The check-in process was very quick, and I really appreciated the welcome cocktail (the pink one on the photos) they offered. The lobby areas were very nice as well. Since I was traveling alone, I didn’t spend much time there, but one evening I had the chance to enjoy a cocktail at the bar. The gentleman working at the bar was very kind and even served me some snacks, which was a very thoughtful gesture. All the staff were polite and attentive.
My room was very clean and housekeeping came every day. Perhaps they could add a pair of slippers in the room, but honestly, it wasn’t a big issue since everything was spotless. The check-out process was also very fast. I had also asked by email if they could store my luggage, and they confirmed that they could, although in the end I didn’t need it — but it was nice to know they were willing to help.
The location was very close to the train station, which made getting from the airport to the hotel extremely easy. My advice for future guests: take the S-Bahn. A taxi would have cost around €30-40, but the train was only €3.90 and brought me directly to the hotel.
The hotel is not right next to the main tourist attractions, but since it’s a Marriott, I chose it because I felt safe and comfortable. I enjoy walking while traveling, so it wasn’t a problem for me. And if you use public transport, it’s very convenient as well.
Overall, it was a wonderful stay, and I can definitely recommend this hotel to my friends visiting Hamburg. Thank you...
Read moreA quirky, trendy hotel, with a fun vibe. The hotel is situated relatively close to public transit via the Berliner Tor station (accessible via both the U-Bahn and S-Bahn lines). The surrounding area is quiet - there are a few parks in the area suitable for a morning walk, and good access to food/drink via the cafes in the area or in the St. Georg neighborhood, a short 15-20 minute walk from the hotel
However, as of the time of writing this review, due to construction in the station area, you will need to take a pedestrian overpass or a long detour around the construction area in order to get to the hotel. The overpass is a wooden construction w/ stairs, but no elevator/escalator that I could easily find, so bear this in mind if you're traveling with a lot of luggage.
The hotel itself was easy to find, and had a very open dining/social area on the ground floor. A bit confusingly, the reception was at the bar counter, which resulted in some delay as there only seemed to be one person checking people in and taking food/drink orders.
The room itself was small and no thrills, but was clean, comfortable, and had everything you'd need.
Overall, this was a decent hotel for its atmosphere and price, definitely worth looking into for a quieter stay while still having access to the rest of the city via public...
