Landgasthof Neue Schänke — Hotel in Königstein/Sächs. Schw.

We had a nice room for 3 on the top floor, it was a little old fashioned but perfectly fine. It's very close to the castle so we had a walk up after dinner to watch the sunset which was beautiful. The hotel is quite remote and a good 30 minute walk to Königstein and probably 50 minutes to get back up the steep forest path. We ate dinner at the hotel and it was well priced and OK with good service. The waitress in the morning was very helpful and friendly and she also helped out when we asked for towels on arrival - there were 2 bath towels and no hand towels for 3 of us staying. Some aspects of the hotel were particularly poor. There were flies in the bedroom, at dinner and at breakfast. There was only one thin, rather tatty towel each. Dinner was supposedly till 8pm, but as ours was "included" we were asked to be down by 7pm and were not given a choice of menu, we had a tepid cabonara and a pannacotta. There was an overpowering smell of potpouri. A shame as a lovely location in meadows very near the walk up to the castle. The corridors are dark, the automatic lights dont always click on. We stayed for a week in July with a group of hikers from Belgium. The place is beautiful as well as the area. The hotel is of a good standard and the staff very nice. A room was reserved for our group which was a bit noisy during meals. The bedding is very comfortable and the rooms are clean and cleaned daily. Soap and shampoo dispensers as well as tissue box are available. We have eaten well. The wine list is significant. The breakfast is plentiful and varied.
