This hotel is in a scenic location, close to the river, Drachenfels and Koenigswinter centre. Reception area impressive, restaurant (and bar when open) typical German decor, everywhere was immaculately clean, there is a pool and fitness area in the basement, which we never got to use.|Check in was quick and efficient, and our room was on par with 4 star hotels, spacious, very clean, with a beautiful bathroom and very large comfortable bed. Lots of little touches that went towards the overall comfort of the room. The aircon worked well ( the weather was pretty warm while we were there) as did the WiFi. No view of the river but we could see Drachenfels from our window. We opted for no cleaning as we were only there for a few days, which meant the hotel would give a donation to a children’s hospice, which we thought was a great idea. We were happy to make the bed but the pile of wet towels accumulated and the bin in the bedroom was practically overflowing by the time we left, all we could see that had been done was replenishing the tea/coffee/milk. Staff were efficient but with the exception of the bar man, not particularly welcoming.|The bar was hardly open whilst we were there but on our last night the barman lent us a bottle opener, which was very kind of him - the beer in the self service machine was not screw cap.|The restaurant - breakfast was OK but evening buffet meal was awful. Tepid food, gristly meat and bony fish. Luckily we had eaten large lunches so really didn’t want to eat much anyway.|We were part of a coach party, the tables we were allocated had signs on them and the staff made a point of avoiding us. It made you feel quite unwelcome and we ate up and got out as quickly as we could. We managed to get a drink to go with our food on the first night, with much difficulty, and were never offered anything, be it wine, beer or water. We are aware that the Germans have a problem with their own tap water, which we found absolutely fine, but in the UK most people ask for tap water with their meal, as an international hotel dealing with companies from different countries, the hotel should be aware of this and accommodate this habit.|We checked out the night before as we had a very early start, and were charged tourist tax, we advised our coach courier as our itinerary never mentioned this, and it was included in the holiday price. The money was refunded when we handed in our room keys the next morning. Surely reception should have been aware of this?|Would we return - no, either here or another hotel in the...
Read moreWorst experience I and my family had. I was twice racially profiled! The sad part is that they had some news report about a benefit for aid in Africa at the very particular time I was experiencing the racial profiling! I was ignored at the front desk around 10am as I was waiting in line to check in where nobody would acknowledge me. As soon as a white older woman walked in she was taking ahead of me. I was told I have to come back around 3pm to check in which I did with 4 children by the way. At 4pm once again I was standing in front the desk being ignored to the fullest! My friend Nicole was sitting with the kids further back and witnessing everything.
I would like to mention that We are world travelers and we never had ever any such unpleasant experiences. I take pride in teaching my children equal rights any race race and gender!
The gentleman didn’t even lifting his had to look at me and the female next to him would ask me to step up to her where no one was waiting in line. I had to ask to be helped. Once stepping to her side a white tall older woman came to where I was standing prior and immediately was acknowledged by the gentleman with raised arms and a warm welcome! I had to rooms reserved and regardless of my hair and skin color should not have been treated like that! My poor children and friend witnessed racial profiling for the first time ever. I might look mediterranean or Middle Eastern but I’m not! It shouldn’t matter at all! My husband left to the states work related and we are in the middle of moving which is extremely stressful. I was trying to give my family a little break from all the stress and run into this very unpleasant and heartbreaking experience. Germany has been very good to us the past 2 years. Unfortunately, coming to this hotel was a big mistake! The rooms are nice and the location very convenient. It should be for the price I am paying but all that doesn’t matter when you have a stuff who treats you this poorly. It is 4am and obviously I’m a little upset about...
Read moreNice upmarket feel to the hotel, modern and well maintained, obviously does business conferences. Lovely large room with mini fridge, safe, no coffee making but I think has been taken out due to covid. Has air con but not brilliant, much better than some hotels we have stayed in though but a large window you can open. A minutes walk into the centre were there are several good restaurants although the restaurant here looks lovely with an outside terrace overlooking the river. The bar also looks very nice.||Loved the design of the shower with its touch controls. Bed was large, firm but reasonably comfortable. Indoor parking garage is large which you can access through the hotel although I feel better signage is needed here. Could not understand why the area to park the car whilst you checked in was chained off, someone had parked their car at the front door whilst they checked in and then unloaded their luggage to take up to their room, blocking all other cars from driving through which meant we had to reverse back down the drive way to exit the hotel area and get to park our car. I am giving it 5 although we did not eat in the restaurant, use the bar or the swimming pool, the staff were friendly and just really enjoyed our room and being able to just...
