Friendly staff, clean rooms and communal areas.
Rooms were functional with comfortable beds, although many of us thought the pillows were strange and not great. My shower base had cracks in it but nothing I could cut my feet on, and it appeared clean.
There was a safe in the room, glasses and a bottle of still water, which was replaced daily (no fridge or ice bucket). There were lots of coat hangers, a TV, large mirrors, hair dryer, liquid soap and body lotion next to the sink (and shaving/make up mirror with socket for shaver) as well as shower gel (all large, wall-mounted squeezy bottles not little ones).
You could open the door in the room to let in air (there were railings for safety) but the view was not great (just nearby warehouse type buildings and a crane for construction). I found the room a little too hot, even with the heating (radiator) off so opened the door for a while each night, but closed at night as I'm a light sleeper and the rain would keep me awake!
The rooms were locked with a key, not a key card, and needed locking from outside or inside, as the door did not automatically lock on shutting, unlike many hotels, so be careful to lock each time and do not leave your key in the lock on the outside!
There was no kettle, but when I asked if I could have one to make a cup of tea, it was brought to my room with sugar, UHT milk capsules and tea bags (no charge) within a few minutes.
I found my phone charger did not fit into my German plug adapter, so was charging it through my laptop, but one evening I left my work laptop at work as we going straight from work on a walking tour and then onto a meal. So, I requested an alarm call (provided on time and at no cost) but was then offered a German plug with different phone charging cables to see which worked by the night porter when I explained why I needed the alarm call. He was one of the most friendly and helpful night porters I have ever encountered and his English made communication a breeze.
Service at the desk and in the hotel bar was brilliant. Everyone spoke English well, the only slight downside was the chaotic breakfasts, which could be sign-posted better, with more information about whether you sit down or wait to be seated... many of us were confused the first morning, but then realised you just grabbed a table and they'd find you for your room number during your breakfast.
The buffet breakfast, which you helped yourself too, included cereals, full English, many bread rolls including gluten free (bread to slice and large dough pretzels) cheeses, eggs (boiled and scrambled), smoked salmon slices, a mixture of cold meats, a fruit bowl, a mixture of teas (strong coffee and milk was in each table), various fruit juices (and a green detox juice which I didn't try) and lots of other options. It appeared there was something for everyone, but you had to cross the outside courtyard to get there! Likewise to get to the bar or Italian restaurant in the evening.
The hotel consisted of a few different buildings, within walking distance of an Aldi store and a great kebab shop if you did not fancy the restaurant on site or one of those nearby.
Free WiFi was provided and worked well.
I would stay here again for work, although it is about 40 or 50 minutes drive from Frankfurt Airport and about 40 minutes to Heidelberg Town, so the location may not...
Read moreNice Hotel made up from several house complexes. Some across the street but thats fine. In high time, parking can be a bit of a challenge, there is more parking space down the roads but one has to walk a few minutes. Staff is nice and helpful, rooms are quite a gamble tho. Im frequently in Villa Toskana (company policy), havent stayed in each and every complex yet but rooms are usually quite decent. Some rooms however show age (damage here and there, quite obviously tho) or simply dirt, spiderwebs or give you glasses which have been used. On top it seems that only the rooms in the main complex have AC. And in summer it gets ridiculously hot. Some rooms have fans, which helps a bit, but some rooms do not, so you have to smother. And for me the worst thing is the absence of Wifi. Technically there is wifi, but only on the hallways and the lobby. Make a step into your room and the signal is gone. Even in the lobby its unreliable. This makes working from the room impossible. The restaurant is decent but pricey. Some days they only offer buffet with very nice food one has to say, but 50€ per person, drinks extra. Breakfast is 24€ and very...
Read moreHere on a company Camp, for 3.5 days / 3 nights.
The hotel has a lovely background against seemingly Tuscan hills covered in vineyards. The hotel also tries hard to have an Italian feel and the hotel buildings all crowd round a central plaza, again with an Italian art deco feel. Certainly very stylish.
A bit complicated to get to, not the best situated place, ie in the middle of a industrial area and next to a cement plant.
One particular remark and why it doesn't get 5 stars is that the more sun exposed rooms desperately need shutters on the outside, instead of curtains on the inside. Curtains don't do anything to reflect the heat, other than inside the room.
A other niggle is that some rooms came with coffee making facilities and others only water, should be both in all rooms.
The staff were very helpful and thoughtful, our stay was very pleasant. The food was very impressive and a great variety was produced by the chefs, catering to omnivores, vegetarians and vegans.
All in all impressive, though a few problems to work out, which when sorted out, will to make it a...
