Jägerhof — Hotel in Mayen

We stayed at Jagerhof for one night. Only 10 minutes walking from historical center of Mayen, this hotel seemed like a good choice. However, we soon discovered some downsides. The hotel front door was almost always closed, day or night. It made us wonder whether a dangerous neighborhood might be the reason. Still do not have an explanation to this day. Then, upon leaving for our walk after check-in, the hotel receptionist asked us if we want to eat in the restaurant, as they want to close early. Imagining it was the kitchen we were talking about, we said that probably not. After visiting Mayen, we returned to the hotel at about 9:10pm, hoping to watch a football game in the smoking area (yes, there is a closed lounge space, available for smokers, with TV and armchairs). The front door was, like always, closed. We entered through a side door and found the reception in pitch black. Searching for a human soul around, we found a guy in the kitchen, who called the receptionist. The receptionist said that we cannot enter the smoking area, in fact we cannot enter ANY area on ground floor, as it is "all seen as one room: reception, smoking area, restaurant, and lobby”, all closed early. She added that “they advised us about closing earlier than 10 pm, the official closing time”. Then, she suggested us to go to our room and watch the game, if we want to see it. Any argument seemed futile, so we did exactly that but have to say that we never encountered such an anti-customer behavior in all our travels and hopefully we will never encounter in the future. Also as downsides: the breakfast was poor, the coffee was really bad, staff attitude was distant to say the least (didn't see a single smile in 24 hours) and parking was in the street, “wherever you find a spot”. In all fairness, there were some upsides: free Wi-Fi available, the room was clean, bathroom was really big and the city center within walking distance. So, we do not recommend it, but it really comes to what one values more when choosing...

Stayed at Jägerhof for 1 night and had a pleasant time. I needed a not to expensive hotel close to Polch. This was a great find, looked like a family hotel to me. I received keys to room 10 on the first floor, and although I only booked for one it had two beds, a table and two chairs, a desk, a huge bathroom and in that bathroom a couch. Which I thought was funny. The tv can be moved on the wall, to also be able to watch from the bed. The room, bathroom and toilet was super clean. The bed slept very comfortable. They provide tissues, shower gel, enough towels and some sweets. The room was dated, but I really did not mind. The restaurant area was nice and more modern and the lady whom worked this evening very helpful and sweet. I also had dinner here which was delicious. I ordered gamba’s baked in garlic and herbs and added some extra’s to make it a full meal. Normally it is an entree. Before this the lady brought some bread with a pepper cream cheese which was tasteful too. She did not mind my request to adjust the meal. I also ordered a bottle of water to bring to my room. The breakfast was good too. I got offered tea or coffee, there was orange juice, water and milk too. Next to that baked bread and normal bread. Soft boiled egg, meats and cheese, jams, Nutella, etc. yogurts and cereals, and even waffles and cake. Way too much for me, but I loved the options. They also provided a newspaper, which I thought was nice although I can’t read german. |There is no elevator, but the stairs were easy to climb. I did not hear other guests in other rooms. The lady in the evening and the other lady in the morning both spoke English which was very convenient for me, since I am insecure on my German. I must say I was sad to see only one other table occupied in the restaurant in the evening. They deserve more customers, really enjoyed the food. I arrived at the Jagerhof Hotel at 11pm with two colleagues. It was in complete darkness and our room keys had been left in a letter-box for collection. We walked through into an unlit courtyard and we were literally stumbling in the dark, having walked past the way into the hotel. We retraced our steps and spotted the door into the hotel and climbed the stairs to our rooms. It certainly wasn't the most friendly start to our one-night stay.||My hotel room on the top floor overlooking the street certainly could not be described as being luxurious. But the bed-linen was spotlessly clean. And the room, although fairly basic, was also clean, offering the usual en-suite facilities. ||Breakfast was the continental variety and was served in the dining room. ||To sum up my stay at the Jagerhof, I would say there is nothing to fault about the hotel.
