We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights
I have some mixed feelings about the place but still gave three stars. Let me elaborate:
Not very kid friendly: we came here with a small kid in a stroller. To enter the main building and the room in another building, there were a lot of stairs which was not very practical. Due to the old building, the doors to enter some placed were a bit too narrow to enter comfortably. We requested a baby bed in the room when making a reservation, and confirmed a second time by email, upon arrival the bed was not ready in the room. The staff did bring the bed around one hour later. The restaurant was a bit too fancy to eat with a small child - usually some bits fall on the floor but there is carpet so we didnt feed her in the restaurant. If we were here without a kid, there wouldnt have been an issue. Best is to come here as a couple. Maybe it would be better to allow 12+ or 16+ only like some hotels do.
Room: room was clean and very large. There were some details worth pointing out. It was hard to figure out how the heating worked and how the blinds would open and close. A staff member showed us to our room - it would have been appreciated if this is shown to the guests. Some outlets did not work, and the plug in the sink is stuck so the water did not run away. The cleaning staff fixed this issue for us. The floor heating cannot be turned off, or we did not know how, so the room was very hot at all times. The pillows were of terrible quality. As flat as a piece of paper after a minute of laying on it.
Food: the breakfast is a buffet with a lot of variety. I liked that they served Latte Macchiato. I only had dinner once and that was excellent. Unfortunately on the second day my baby and myself became ill. I requested a dinner in the room and that was accomodated. I told them to make whatever is easiest to make and I will eat anything. I got potatoes, roast beef and salad with some bread and it was tasty. We feel as if the restaurant staff was a bit uptight - we got a comment when we used a champagne glass for water at the breakfast and at dinner we felt as if one particular staff member did not like us - when we entered the restaurant with the stroller they seemed annoyed. The bar was closed, which is a shame.
Reception desk: always friendly and clear communication. We asked for info about the town multiple times and were helped politely. All requests were accomodated.
Pool: pool was very clean, we were alone there each time we went. The room and pool are heated which made it ideal to swim with a baby. There are bubble bath beds in the pool.
Cleaning crew: our room was thorougly cleaned by the cleaning crew. They checked ahead when we would be gone and cleaned the room during that time.
To sum up: this hotel is ideal to stay at as a couple or with older kids. If you have a stroller with you, it might be better to stay at a...
Read moreWe've stayed here before so we knew what to expect generally. This time we selected a mosel-view room in the main building - we have had rooms in one of the other buildings previously. We got a parking place both nights but only just. Access to the main building is up a flight of 10 steps, which should be noted by anyone with mobility issues. There is a lift to bedroom floors internally. Our room was really rather small and cramped but it had a good balcony with a nice view of the Mosel so that somewhat compensated. But our room had not been cleaned or serviced on the second day we came back - that was fixed after we complained. The jugendstil features of the hotel are as described and make this a nice place to stay and dine. Dinner was ok but service one night was very slow: there was a 40 minute gap after our first courses had been cleared away, with several tables waiting like us. Then 6 main course appeared at once. Obviously there had been some hold-up in the kitchen but nobody explained or apologised. I guess we'd come here again, but I get the impression that standards are slipping a bit. Breakfast was fairly good but one morning the main dining room was full and a few of us had to use another room - which mean several trips back/forth to the buffet. But we got to see another art nouveau room which...
Read moreThis hotel owns several buildings within a block or two of the main hotel. Having seen 3 units, I can tell you that all are different. The 1st one was a throw back to the 60's, all orange and yellow with a mix of furniture and a balcony that once had a view of the river- now a building is occluding it. The next room, the Black and White, is a mix of mod meets bordello- black, white, red and chrome, a platform bed on a platform. The very large bathroom has been recently remodeled with heated floors, glass enclosed from the rest of the room, and a multi spray shower. We also got a peek across the hall at a more bare bones room with a small aqua free standing fridge. Basically, the rooms are quiet, the plumbing works, the internet is slow, parking can be sparse, and you'll have to walk a few blocks to the main lovely Art Nouveau main building for breakfast. Our room did not have bar soap, shampoo,or conditioner. But there were heated towel racks, electrical converters, big fluffy towels. And with google translate, I requested the comforters, that seen to be ubiquitous in German hotels, be replaced with top sheets and blankets,...
