Paid €75 bed-and-breakfast (room slept two, I was solo), and on checkout half expected to be told that it was in fact €175, so great was the value on offer. || Worpswede is a quiet village/town north of Bremen, in the middle of a peaty-boggy landscape, popular with artists for over a century. Buchenhof is on the main road just as you come in - the main part of the town is 5-10 minutes' walk away. || This is easily one of the quietest hotels I have stayed in -- despite proximity to the road. I stayed in the "guest house" section which is opposite the main buildings. The decor is old-style in an unobtrusive, very classy way. || Beds extremely comfortable. Quite spacious first-floor room: little balcony outside with candle-lit lamp and matches provided (typical considerate touches). Beautiful soft duvets and pillows. Sense that every little detail has been carefully considered, down to the antique-style glass lampshades. || Breakfast over in the main building -- quite a "fancy" dining room but not oppressively so. Breakfast food fine (lots of fruit on offer including fresh bananas), though it would have been nice if the waitress had actually told me there was cheese/sausage/meats on offer at the back of the room (I only realised this as I was exiting -- I quickly filled my plate and returned to my table). || Charming views of forest and other hotel buildings (this is a very old residence) from all windows and in all directions. Worpswede itself is somewhat off the beaten track (if you do go there, make sure you visit the Hamehutte restaurant on the banks of the Wumme river at Neu Helgoland, about 1.5km from the centre), but if you are looking for somewhere quiet for a relaxing getaway weekend you should bear it in mind. Fans of Rainer Maria Rilke and/or Paula Modersohn Becker may have heard of it (former was married there, latter is the best known of the town's many artist residents). There are many fine walks in the area - very flat countryside, sparsely populated.|| You can get a bus from Bremen main station, there's one an hour and it takes 45 minutes -- stops right next to the Buchenhof's driveway. Sauna on offer, massages likewise. A real...
Read moreJust spent 5 very pleasant nights at this hotel.||||Staff was kind and smiling. Excellent breakfast – really good!||||One evening we came home, and we asked if we could have tea served in our room – we were in room 27 and 28, very nice small suites with antique looking furniture (a little kitch, but nice) very kind and good service.||||Excellent beds, perfect pillows and duvets – we all slept very well – nice and quite. Floor in room 28 rather squeaky, but that was no problem.||||They only serve breakfast and there is no room service as such (I think they did an exception, when they served tea and cake for us one evening) there is also a café in the afternoon.||||They can book and recommend dinner at different restaurants in Worpswede for a very reasonable price.||||Nice big clean rooms, TV with DVD player in both rooms.||||There is a sauna and you can have massage which was really professional and good.||||No help with the luggage, more like a private B&B then a hotel as such – but very reasonable price.||||Would definitely stay again, and if you are a family travelling together or friend - room 27 and 28 can be recommended, as it is very private – only two suites to use this staircase.||||Less then half an hour by...
Read moreThe Buchenhof is on lovely, quiet, wooded grounds a short walk from Worpswede. The buildings, constructed around 1900, are decorated in a style true to the period with antiques or fine reproductions of the art nouveau and art and crafts style. Our bathroom on the other hand was entirely modern. Breakfast (included) was excellent, with a big pot of coffee with its own warmer, which is a nice touch. The attentive waitress asked if we would prefer breakfast on the lovely terrace, and if we would like a second pot of coffee (this inquiry, though seemingly obvious, is in my experience not very usual in Europe). The hotel does not serve dinner but there are many restaurant alternatives (a good Italian restaurant is right across the street). The flat screen TV was very small but otherwise OK. I couldn’t make a WIFI connection in our room, but access was open in the reception area. The art colony of Worpswede is worth a visit and the various shops and galleries are housed in beautiful homes and buildings. There are some nice walking trails in and around the town. There is a bus to Bremen right outside the hotel that runs about...
