I have stayed at many hotels and I don't think I have ever given a review below 3 stars. Well my luck finally run out. The Tulip by Ave Maria Hotel is the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. It is a sub par budget hotel with 3 and 4 star hotel prices, a poorly trained staff and penchant for upcharging their customers||||The hotel is extremely out dated with very uncomfortable beds. Not enough hot water in my room. Their king bed is made of 2 twin mattress with a king mattress cover. The mattresses eventually pushes apart and you end up in the gap between the two twin matresses. This makes for a very uncomfortable sleep and is beyond ridiculous. ||||I will not stay at this hotel if it is the last hotel in town. ||||The customer service reps are beyond rude, not properly trained and unprofessional. They seem to be under a lot of stress which is understandable because the hotel premisses and ameneties seemed poorly managed. My friend and I got to the hotal around 11 PM after a delayed trip from Cape coast. The only guest service member on duty was asleep on the floor right behind the counter. He looked disoriented after we woke him up. I should have known it was going to go downhill after that. We were upgraded to services we did not ask for even though I explicitly stated what we wanted. The "half sleeping rep" booked us into a room we didn't ask for because he couldn't get the doors to the other rooms to open. I got a call at 6 AM to clarify my room booking becuase the morning staff and the night staff were on different pages as to why my friend and I were in the wrong room and why the name of the booking is different from the name on the credit card...(A wake up call that I didn't ask for or needed).. This didn't need to be discussed at 6 AM and is beyond ridiculous.. ||||When we came down to checkout, we were told we had to pay an extra $30 for extra guest. When I protested, and complained about not being informed of this at check-in (even though I explicitly stated at the time of check-in/walk-in that I wanted 1 room with two beds for two guests when we were at the counter). The half asleep rep bungled our on-prem booking. The manger on tudy informed me he will charge the extra fees regardless. After they presented the receipt and my credit card back to me, I took my card and refused to sign the receipt. That's when things got real. The manager who goes by name Ekow, instructed the guard at the gate to lock the gate and prevent us from leaving the premises until I signed the receipt. I couldn't believe a hotel staffer will attempt to hold customers hostage over a charge dispute.||||Anyway, I signed and was allowed to leave. ||||This is a really poor choice of hotel. I have stayed at Fiesta Royal, Movenpick, Accra city among other hotels and have always had excellent service so I know this is not a systemic issue across the hotel industry in Ghana. Nonetheless I hope this serves as a cautionary tale to anyone who considers a stay at the Tulip by Ave Maria hotel in...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreLancaster Accra should be rated a 3 star hotel at best. We started in room 023 which didn't appear to be clean upon arrival because the floor and night stands were dirty. After, wiping down everything, the sink did not drain properly. It did not have a stopper nor a strain on the drain, so no wonder it could not drain. There was so much trash down the drain were guest had dropped things in the sink.
The tub/shower combination was a whole other beast because it's very deep making it hard for elderly or those with mobility issues to get into. I had my 75 yr old mother with me and she has knee issues so climbing in out that tub for a shower was treacherous. We asked to be moved the next day, but told they did not have any rooms available with just a shower. The bathroom had some mold issues also and you are only given 1 hand towel. We dealt with the room for a few days before checking out for one night and coming back with our tour group. They tried to give us the same room, but I was not having it. I asked for a room with just a shower. So we were moved to room 278. There was construction in the first part of the hall way before getting to our room. The room was hot and we thought it just needed time to cool down. We were very tired because we've been out all day. Also this room had no strainer in the bathroom sink so it drained slowly. We toughed it out and decided we would let them know the AC wasn't working on our way out in the morning. When we returned, it still wasn't working, so I called maintenance, he came up and after checking said you all will have to move to another room. At this point because of the construction on that wing, we have had to use the stairwell to get to the lobby area. The stairwell has no lights at night. We let them know about this also. Not sure if it ever got fixed.
The hotel sent someone to retrieve our things after we packed up and then moved us to room 222. We only have 2 nights left at this point but the air was working and we had a shower and a sink that drained properly because it had a stopper. It does offer a breakfast buffet every morning. It was good. The lobby is very welcoming and clean. They have a pool and...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWas travelling for business to Accra, on a friendās recommendation chose to stay at the Lancaster Accra.
It was an excellent choice as compared to other hotels in the city this is not a tall skyscraper but rather a three-level hotel with tranquility and plenty of vast green spaces. In fact, a vast sanctuary with plenty of room to rest, relax and do business. Ideal for the weary traveler looking for clam and peace this hotel is a resort with friendly staff from the reception to the housekeeping all greeting their guests with a smile. I chose this hotel the second time of my travel to Accra and was delightfully pleased with the consistency of the service.
The hotel has a large restaurant that serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner with an impressive buffet and plenty of seating capacity both indoors and outdoors by the poolside. The restaurant serves both local and international cuisine with a variety of seafood options. Service and hospitality are impeccable in true Ghanian style. The staff are always smiling and ready to help with their guestsā special dietary requests.
The pool side has a bar that serves all kinds of alcoholic drinks and is a beautiful place to unwind in the evening with music from the ninetyās playing all night long and if one would like they can watch a game of football on the large TV screens outdoors.
The hotel has a shop that sells large paintings from their resident artist Mr. Kofinduro. His paintings are worth owning and Kofinduro himself is readily available to explain the meaning behind his painting. An always smiling humble gentleman, Iām putting up some of his work of art and his photo with his permission. Please do buy his paintings if you are an art lover and let his work of art adorn your home or office.
A special mention for Ms. Francisca at the restaurant who was ever smiling with a pleasant demeanor and ready to offer suggestion and accommodate by a-la-carte-request. A shout out to Ms. Linda from the reception for your impeccable service and all the housekeeping staff who readily greeted all their guests and tidied my...
