The hotel grounds are immaculate, with beautiful landscaping and several convenient amenities, including a pharmacy and a bank on-site. The breakfasts were delicious, and the executive lounge was a highlight with its welcoming staff. Special mention to Moses, who was always there with a smile, ready to assist and ensure our needs were met. The housekeeping staff also stood out, always eager to serve and maintain a high level of cleanliness. I was especially impressed when the hotel followed up with an email after we checked out to confirm that we had left items behind and offered storage or courier options to return them—such thoughtful and attentive customer service.
I’d also like to highlight Vivian in the restaurant, who went above and beyond to make our dining experience exceptional. Her attentive service and warm personality made each meal enjoyable, and she truly added a personal touch to our time there.
However, there were some areas that need attention. Firstly, we weren’t informed in advance that the pool was out of order. Since I’m not a fan of the beach, this was a big disappointment and a key factor in choosing this hotel. The TV quality in the room was terrible—honestly, it felt like something from the early '90s! The picture quality was so bad, it almost looked like it belonged in my mom's old living room. It was completely fuzzy with varying degrees of volume depending on the channel. In 2025 there is no reason why a hotel of this caliber shouldn’t have a smart tv.
Additionally, despite having multiple rooms booked for our group (totaling thousands of dollars), we were told in advance that the hotel wouldn’t accommodate an early check-in for two of our rooms. They offered us the option to pay for an additional night to check in earlier, which felt unbelievable given the Movenpick brand and the amount of money we were spending. We ultimately had to wait until 1pm for check-in, which was 2 hours early, causing significant inconvenience. This also meant we had to reschedule a hair appointment and change plans, which was frustrating. Similarly, when some members of our party had a late flight, they weren’t accommodated with a late enough check-out, which was disappointing, especially considering the amount we spent. Specifically with the other issues we had, we hoped they would accommodate to make up for those issues.
The biggest issue, however, was the disorganization in the reservations department. After the executive suite was booked, we contacted the hotel to confirm if more than 2 people could stay in the room. We were told no, so we booked a second adjoining room. Upon check-in, we were shocked to learn that the executive suite was actually confirmed for 3 people and included 3 breakfast add-ons. It felt like we had been misinformed and could have saved money if we'd known we could all stay in the suite. It certainly was big enough. Then, to top it off, we were told the adjoining room only accommodated 1 guest and might incur an additional charge for extra people—despite prior confirmation. Thankfully, I had all the email correspondence to prove that we booked the adjoining room for 2 guests. The rollaway bed we requested was also missing, but we did not bother with it.
Overall, Movenpick Accra has a lot of potential, with its ideal location, beautiful grounds, and free parking. However, the disorganization of the reservations team and lack of flexibility in handling guest needs left a lot to be desired. Given the issues, I feel that the hotel owes us a partial refund or compensation for the...
Read moreDIRTY BROWN WATER in the hotel!!! Unable to take a clean shower for a week! First of all, I must talk about the horrible experience I had with the water. The first day, I arrived to the hotel after a 20+ intercontinental flight and I wanted to desperately take a shower and go to a cocktail reception from work downtown. However, as soon as I turned on the shower I realized the water was brown! I called the front desk and they sent an engineer to see what was happening. The engineer came, he told me the hotel was having issues with the tank, he stayed for like 30min letting the water run, and then left saying he was going to be back. 30min to 1 hour later, I was still waiting for the engineer to come back or for the water to clear up. I called the front desk. A very rude lady answered me saying that I am the only person who is complaining about the water, and that I should wait. I tried to explain to her that I had a work event that I couldn't miss, but she said there is nothing she can do, that I had to wait. I waited longer. Then, afraid to miss my work cocktail, I called the reception again - they talked to the engineer who said I can just close the water tap and go to my event (but I needed to take a shower after a 20+ hours trip!). Frustrated and accepting the fact that I was going to miss my work event, I called the reception again and requested to be changed rooms. My petition was accepted and I was taken to a room on the 4th floor. I was told the water should be clean there. After letting the water run for like 2 minutes, the water in this new room starting coming up brown again! In summary, during my whole stay the water was dirty! I felt gross to take showers. I thought this was an issue in the city but I asked my colleagues staying at the other hotels (some of them cheaper hotels) and they all said that the water in their hotels was clean! Therefore, this is only an issue at Movenpick. I cannot emphasize enough how rude and nasty it is to offer an expensive stay to clients without even having clean water. Another bad experience I had was when I tried to order a hotel car to take me to the hotel nearby (a 5min drive). I was told that the ride would cost me USD20!!! When Uber was offering it for USD2!!! This is a rip off to consumers. Besides these unfortunate events. I must congratulate the hotel for the wonderful staff at the restaurant and the amazing food, especially, on Friday night, when I was offered a buffet that included typical African food. The food there is delicious! And the restaurant staff are extremely nice, welcoming, and friendly. The luggage boys where also very nice and attentive. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same about the front desk people. Finally, I also highly appreciated the chocolate hour, and the souvenir shop...
Read moreMöventec Ambassador Hotel: Five Stars With a Few Dim Spots
We recently spent four nights at the Möventec Ambassador Hotel in Accra, drawn by its five-star status and the promise of an exceptional experience. Let’s say, in short, it’s the “almost” five-star experience that keeps you entertained (though not always in the way you’d hope)!
The Good: The location is prime, truly central to all the best Accra has to offer. And the hotel itself ticks all the boxes when it comes to amenities—gym, pool, and dining options.
The Less Good: It appears time has been a persistent guest here too. The hotel’s age (13 years) shows up in quirky ways—like a shower glass wall that cracks so loudly it could double as a drum kit for a midnight jam session. We assumed these quirks would be noticed by staff, but they seem to have settled in like old friends.
Concierge Service? Surprisingly absent. In a five-star hotel, especially in a city where many travelers are exploring for the first time, a concierge is essential. Here, you’re on your own, which can be a bit daunting if you’re new to the local scene.
Service (or the Lack Thereof): Service is an adventure all its own. Need fresh towels? A minor quest requiring 3-4 calls and a bit of faith. Got a room issue, like our eternally warm 24°C climate control? Prepare to meet the hotel technician, who will visit with great frequency but little success. And be sure to brace yourself at checkout, where the airport transfer cost may vary depending on… well, no one’s quite sure why. A debate about the fluctuating transfer fee was met with baffled faces at the reception desk. Organizational structure? Let’s say, it’s fluid.
Breakfast, With a Side of Surprises: Breakfast was included, but we missed it on multiple mornings. We also had a friend join us for coffee, which promptly landed him a bill for a full breakfast (we had Breakfast included). A touch of leniency would have been appreciated, especially after the… memorable experiences.
A Luxury Ride… or Is It? Here’s a highlight: one evening, needing a ride to a nearby restaurant just 5-10 minutes away, we asked the hotel for help. They offered a car… for $60. Each way. Yes, $120 round-trip for what turned out to be a $2 Uber. Even renting a driver for the whole day wouldn’t set you back that much. We couldn’t help but feel the “luxury” here was in the creative pricing strategy.
All in all, Möventec Ambassador has plenty of promise. It’s just...
