Fredericks Lodge is clean, modern, and comfortable. It's tucked away in a residential area in Kumasi, and so much like other Ghanaian residential areas, the road is not paved. The Lodge should consider using some of its revenue to page the road so visitors have an easier time getting here. Along those lines, there needs to be an improvement to the directions and address to make the place easier to find.
While the staff are extremely professional, they aren't too friendly. But, this is an observation I've made of Ghanaian culture overall. Ghanaians are extremely hard working but not very friendly. As a foreigner, that was a shock. The staff need to welcome its visitors with smiles and greetings.
A two person breakfast can be purchased for only 10 ghana cedis, which isn't bad. The breakfast is of good portion and decent. There's a small pool out back and a small gym as well. Rooms start at about $85 American dollars, which isn't bad for the American traveler, but quite expensive for the Ghanaian traveler.
The hotel is within a residential area, so don't expect a scenic beach resort view. You will see a typical Ghanianian residential area. The rooms come with air conditioning, which is so helpful in beating this African heat. The water isn't always hot though. Rooms come with wifi access. Be prepared to wear a "nose mask," wash your hands and have your temperature taken at the front gate.
Overall, the Fredericks Lodge is clean, comfortable, and nice. It's also not too far from the main road. It's advisable to walk to the main road and then catch a taxi from there...
Read morePublished price for Junior Suit was GHC 883 whereas I was asked to pay GHC 1,000/night. I thought it was over priced. Staff did not know what they were doing. Gave them my visa card - charged me GHC 400 for two nights. I overlooked the GHC and thought it was USD 400 and when I asked the guy at the front desk the exchange rate, he tells me it was GHC 5.70 to a USD. Then he checks with their manager. The manager say on the phone it GHC 5 to a USD. I had booked for two nights but with all that commotion and the unfriendly response of the staff, I decided to cancel the second night. The Junior Suit was okay - mattress to soft for my liking but nothing to complain about. The swimming pool is small and dirty - at the time of my visit the water was green full of algae. Breakfast was horrible - I asked for a two-egg sunny side up - even repeated my order and then I end up getting an omelette.. I left after having a few pieces of papaya, omelette, which I had not asked for, and a cup of Nescafe. After paying GHC 1,000 per night, I was sincerely disappointed with the lodge and staff. And of course, the dirt road access to the lodge. I for one will not be going back to that over-priced lodge. I was terribly mislead by all the beautiful...
Read moreMy partner and I stayed here for one night. Firstly; they were very accommodating as we needed to check in early and called with less than 12 hours notice seeking availability.
Food: I’ll start off with the best part of our short stay, which was the food. The breakfast buffet includes traditional items like Hausa Koko and boflot, oats, eggs, etc. AND it rice with stew, rice ball and groundnut soup, and yam and corned beef egg stew. Everything was delicious! For dinner, we ordered Jollof and chicken, fried rice with tilapia, and chicken light soup. The fried rice was exquisite. I don’t say that lightly as an amazing cook and a self named food critic. The light soup was good, and Jollof was fine. The tilapia, I think they were rushing as it was dry and not well seasoned. Overall, a fantastic food experience and I’d recommend the place just off that.
Staff: extremely accommodating and friendly!
Hotel room: we stayed in whichever room is the middle package (not standard) and the room itself was fine, clean. I hate the carpet/rug at the bedsides though. The bathroom could use some updating, too. Especially the tub!
Proximity: right by the mall, not too far from the airport. It’s a great...
