All in all a Wonderful Stay! Lush Gardens and Private Beach - Great Staff and Quality Service!
What I Liked : The hotel grounds were spectacular, the way they have landscaped the surrounding gardens is breathtaking...one of the best ground I've seen at a hotel.
The private beach was also superb, very clean, white sand and turquoise green water.
The hotel itself it very well maintained and the staff are very friendly, polite and at hand to help. The rooms are clean and spacious but definitely in need of modernisation...not an issue for us but it definitely had the late 90s feel!
The Spa was also excellent and the 3 girls, Louli, Melissa and I forget the other (Sorry!) are so friendly and great at their job. They were also so warm and friendly towards my little 15 month son - was great bumping into them each day at they made their rounds and offer guests free 2 minute massages by the pool - good touch!
The Desserts at Dinner time are out of this world...absolutely delicious and the best I've experienced. You can tell the team responsible take pride in their work and they freshen things up daily with new varieties-and there is ample variety and choice! Magnificent!
What we Disliked: Unfortunately there were a handful of things...some big and some small that did put us off a little...
Food - as a Vegetarian the selection is not great (and believe me when I say this - we are not picky). I feel they could have done more to accommodate for vegetarians. We got through it and the food that we were able to eat was very tasty! We just had to eat the same stuff pretty much daily.
If you have a bad back then I would be aware - the mattresses are very soft and back breaking and the bed linen makes a lot of noise whenever you move not good if you have a baby in the room!
Paying for sunbeds and umbrella's at their own private beach is a huge let down for a hotel that prides itself for being 5 star.
This is also the first 5 star I've been to where they do not provide free water. At the supermarket is it 2 euro's for 6 one litre bottles - cheap! So I do not see why the hotel do not provide each room for 2 free bottles each day. It's a small price for the big effect it has on customers.
This hotel definitely looks to make additional money charging for anything additional - like the tennis court which is 15 euro's per hour even though we had our own rackets and balls.
If a hotel wishes to pride itself in being 5 star then they should act it... to be luxury you should provide it at all time- you should not look to upsell at every given moment - just my 2 cents based on my experience at...
Read moreThis is the first time I am writing such a negative feedback but unfortunately it is fully deserved.
Have never seen such dirtiness and poor maintenance. Extremely poor cleaning service - I have never seen such a dirty and bad maintained suite/room.
There were dead bugs, spider nets and a thick dust layer (Imagine you haven’t been to your villa for 3 years or more…). Under and onto the carpets there was even more dust. Carpets have not been washed at least couple of seasons. Nothing changed even after our complains, nobody came the day after to inspect and assure the cleaning quality and deliverables. The condition of the room was totally the same.
Placed on the floor for change the bathrobe had not been changed but put back on the hanger.
There was a constant noise from the air conditioners when turned off.
After our complain the receptionist proposed to move us to another room whose condition was even worse. I can sincerely say that I have never seen such dirtiness. We refused that and insisted on a compensation without specifying what it should be.
Poor or missing wifi
The SPA (meaning pool, sauna, steam bath) and the gym are subject of additional charge!? This is the first time I see that these facilities are paid and what is more - in a 5-star hotel. And guess what, the hotel is being marketed as a „SPA“ hotel where on its description it is said that „Guests have free access to the spa and gym.“
Broken or and/or not working lighting which is also dangerous (broken lamp with hanging cables in the bathroom)
No mini bar at the suite.
Old and worn out furniture and equipment.
Umbrellas and sunbeds are paid. Noting, that the hotel has a private beach.
The only positive feature is the variety of food but it is shadowed by all the rest negative features.
We asked for a kind of compensation during the whole back and forth discussion we did not receive even a single apology from the personnel or/and the manager, who by the way we were not delighted to meet. He/she communicated only through the receptionists.
As we asked for a compensation (any kind) we have not received any proposal or just a feedback from the management. It truly looked arrogant and like they are making fun of us and ignoring the issue.
This is anything but even not close to a 5-star hotel.
I have no clue how this hotel had been categorised as a 5-star one and most importantly how it manages to maintain those stars. I trust it should be a matter of regular international compliance checks.
P.S. I‘ve been to 3- and 4-star hotels which provide just an excellent service in all of the...
Read moreWe recently enjoyed a three-day getaway at the Aegean Melathron in Kalithea during our vacation in Greece. Overall, the experience was quite positive, with the hotel offering an array of amenities befitting a five-star establishment. While the decor had a slightly aged feel, the meticulous preservation of everything was evident. The hotel upheld all the standards one would expect from a luxury property.
Dining was also a highlight of our stay. Opting for the half-board package, we were treated to a diverse range of options for dinner, catering to various palates. The cuisine offered something for everyone, ensuring a satisfying dining experience. Our accommodation was in a Maisonette apartment that exuded exceptional beauty. The apartment boasted captivating views, exceptionally comfortable beds, and the added delight of a pool just outside our doorstep.
Although the beach was a bit distant, the convenience of golf carts within the hotel premises made navigating the expansive property a breeze. The abundance of amenities, including a spa area and impressive shopping opportunities, added to the overall allure of the Aegean Melathron. Additionally, the post-dinner entertainment program provided a delightful way to unwind.
Regrettably, what diminished our experience was the quality of fellow guests at the hotel. Visiting during peak travel season, our group of two Americans, a Turk, and a Greek were friends seeking relaxation. The hotel, renowned for its family-friendliness, posed a challenge for couples or groups without children. While the children themselves weren't an issue, some parents exhibited discourteous behavior, at times blocking pathways and using loudspeakers in public areas.
While it's uncertain whether cultural differences played a role, instances of thoughtlessness were frequent, even observed at the beach. It's important to note that the hotel itself likely has no control over guest behavior, given that guests aren't selectively chosen. Evidently, the property seems to be a preferred choice for affluent vacationers from other Balkan countries, which might account for these observations.
Despite this drawback, our overall experience was highly enjoyable, and we had a wonderful time. I would certainly consider revisiting the Aegean Melathron, although I'd opt for a time when the winter holidays in the Balkans aren't in full swing, as this may contribute to a more peaceful and...
