We spent 3 nights at this hotel at the end of a week exploring the Mani peninsula, from 3 different guest houses. We saved the best until last! ||There is something very special about Limeni - I think it was the stunning turquoise water, backed by the lovely stone buildings, and to cap it all, a couple of loggerhead turtles frequenting the shoreline. Put that together with the beautiful yet comfortable base of the Mavromichalai Hotel, and it was heaven!||We were in a standard room (5) on the first floor of the historic tower. It was on the small side but very comfortable with a very luxurious bed. Although there was only one window, what a view! Straight out across the sea, and most of the time, even at night, we had the window wide open to hear the sound of the waves. ||The bathroom was also compact but had an excellent shower and Molton Brown toiletries. The room itself had an aircon unit and a small fridge (2 small bottles of water were provided on arrival) and there was an Espresso coffee machine with capsules provided.||Breakfast was very nice and taken on the terrace, with the food brought to your table. We had a local speciality doughnut type pastry freshly cooked that morning, two types of cheese, honey, jam and bread, good cake or sweet pie depending on the day, plus omelettes could be ordered and there was freshly squeezed orange juice as well as tea and coffee. It took a little time for the food to be prepared once we came down each morning, so allow yourself plenty of time, If you need breakfast earlier than 8.30am, as we did on our last day, best to advise them of this the previous day. The staff are really lovely and are pleased to give you tips on places to visit, restaurants and best routes.||We dined each night at a different restaurant in the village and though the locations were stunning, I can't say we were massively impressed by any of them, especially as the prices seemed inflated in Limeni compared to the rest of the peninsula, but they were all okay with wonderful views of the bay, and we will review them separately. The "Customs" cocktail bar is a lovely spot to enjoy a pre or post dinner drink, 2 doors along. Note there are no shops in Limeni other than a smart and pricey deli which sells locally made products to take home.||The highlight of Limeni for us was actually the resident turtles. One of them hung out every day we were there (from breakfast time onwards) between the Mavromichalai Hotel and the next door taverna - which we realised was because that taverna gutted its fish each mealtime and threw the waste fish into the sea, which the turtle seemed to enjoy! The first morning this turtle was joined by another darker shelled one, and a number of times they came together and rolled with their white undersides showing, so we guess they were courting, as normally turtles are solitary. The water is so clear in Limeni that we could even see the turtle from up on the hillside above!||From this location you can visit the impressive Caves of Diros nearby which are a must-see, but you will need a hire car to explore the beautiful unspoilt Mani properly.||Would recommend this hotel to anyone who enjoys quality accommodation and is looking for a beautiful spot to relax and enjoy the sea views, plus...
Read moreThis was our 2nd stay at Mavromichalai and we loved it just as much, maybe even more because of the amazing staff this time. Georgia was very helpful with the booking and she made us feel so welcome. Thanks to her, Christina and Evangelia, this lovely boutique hotel, which already has such history and ambience, also feels warm and homely.||The tastefully and lovingly restored stone mansion is right by the sea in Limeni. In fact, from the bedroom window it felt like we were over the water.|| A delicious breakfast includes homemade local delicacies and is served on the verandah where one has a lovely view of Limeni Bay, the turquoise blue sea and the stone houses of the village. It is also the perfect place to watch the sunset.||Limeni is one of the most beautiful places in Greece. I think what make it so extra ordinary is the turquoise and green colour of the sea. It is truly a magical sight.||Although we were worried we would not find a place close by to swim, there is a very sandy patch of crystal clear waters just a few meters down the road . When we went for our swim before 8am we had the whole place to ourselves; so refreshing and beautiful.||It is always so special to stay in a historical house which has been tastefully restored and when that is combined with a stunning setting and excellent service, one...
Read moreStaying at mavromichalai felt like a dream, and a huge part of that was thanks to Georgia. From the moment we arrived, she made us feel truly welcome — not just as guests, but like part of the family. The hotel itself is absolutely stunning, like a castle full of character and history, but what truly sets it apart is the warmth and care that Georgia brings to everything she does.
She was always available to help with anything we needed, gave amazing recommendations for places to visit and eat, and made sure every detail of our stay was perfect. Her kindness, attention to detail, and genuine hospitality made this one of the most special trips we've ever had.
The breakfast at the hotel is truly special – Georgia prepares it herself, and you can really taste the care and quality in every bite. There's even a unique sourdough bread she makes from scratch, which was absolutely delicious.
Thank you, Georgia, for making our stay so unforgettable. We can't wait...
