Amazing apartment! Listed on Airbnb as "Kalamaki stone house by the sea".
The hosts are incredibly, but really incredibly, hospitable! We recieved tons of fresh fruit and vegetables, bottles and jugs full of local beverages, several fresh home made delicious meals and deserts and much much more during or stay. The farewell package of hand made Cretan goods and hand picked spices and herb tees was so big that we barely squeezed it in our luggage!
Well equiped with all you would ever need, stylishly furnished, very clean. Roofed terrace with garden furniture, parking directly by the front door, bus stop 10 meters away.
It's 3 minutes on foot to the beach. A grocery store and many great restaurants are within 2-5 minutes on foot away. Phaistos Minoian Palace 15 minutes by car. Optionally nudist Beach Kommos about 5-10 minutes on foot along the coast.
Kalamaki itself is a beautifful calm oasis with all the amenities but small enough to avoid evils of mass tourism. The beach is sand and small pebbles, but on most places you need to walk over a flat rocky floor before you get to the swimming depth - wearing water shoes is a good idea, though it's...
Read moreGood little pension within 3 minute walk of the beach and the restaurants and shops of Kalamaki. The staff were very very welcoming and keen to involve you in their way of life, they were very hospitable, giving you the chance to join in with meals and sit and have drinks with them on a daily basis. If your looking for somewhere just to lay your head this might not be the best for you.||||Rooms were clean and spacious, the only down side was that the tap water smelled particularly when stagnant on the bathroom floor after showers as it didn't drain very well. There was a nice balcony over looking the sea, but bare in mind not all rooms have kitchen facilities and you may want to request this if it's something you want.||||Kalamaki is quite difficult to access if you don't have a car and it might be worth asking for a transfer from somewhere like Matala or Mires, the owners were more than happy to oblige with this. Overall we enjoyed Kalamaki and Pension Galini was good value for money and a...
Read moreThis is a rather basic hotel though it has the usual amenities (including a wifi that was working perfectly, not necessarily expected on south Crete). The beach is a 3 minute walk away.A private swimming pool (for the days with big waves) is 2 minutes away. ||||What made a huge difference were the owners who live on the ground floor. Always eager to help, engage in conversation and offer a coffee, a raki, some fruit or whatever was handy. I was really made to feel part of the fachanfes. mily - the interactions went well beyond the usual "polite" exchanges. I do travel a lot, but it has been some time that I felt this kind of warm hospitality. ||||Add to it a very relaxing atmosphere in Kalamaki and good tavernas, and you can expect a...
