10 days in the hotel:
Pools: this hotel is very based on their pools and advertising them to attract customers, yet the pools have NO heating and using them is almost impossible unless you are here in the high season when it’s 30C* or more. The water is about 5-10C* and impossibly cold to swim in. A hotel like this SHOULD have pool heating! even the private one’s do not have it. There is a chilly breeze all the time on this island so it really is necessary. It’s an expensive hotel so this should be a standard service.
Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner: all the food has the same industrial/bulky/plasticy taste sadly. It all looks fantastic but the majority of it tastes horrible and the menu stays the same every day for 80% of the dishes. This is expected when cooking on this large of a scale ofcourse. Out of the 10 days i’d say we were satisfied with the dishes only about 3 of them.
Dessert: I actually liked the desserts here and they were my favorite thing to eat every day. They tasted great and very surprising after the regular meals, these might be ordered in?
Soft drinks: the service provided to get drinks is quick and polite. All drinks sadly have been watered down extremely losing a lot of its taste. Mocktails not included, these had a nice and refreshing taste to them! I cannot voice an opinion on the alcoholic drinks since we do not drink.
The staff: very professional and going beyond to help out, this stood out for me during our stay and I can add nothing but compliments to the staff and management. Special shoutout to: Gerosimos/Dimitris/Iraklis: thank you for being so humble and pleasant to have met, I hope both of you get what you deserve for your hard work. Side note: That manager with the mustache that looks like Pablo Escobar and refuses to wear a nametag needs to be let go for being rude and unprofessional.
The hotel shop: the shop is extremely overpriced and the shop owner does not understand English and barely speaks it? Also this shop sells soft drugs which is extremely unprofessional in an establishment like this.
Activities: I can not say much about this since I was here with my girlfriend and we avoided most of these due to our own preference, there was a show every night and some games to play for those interested.
Wifi: really fast - no complaints
Getting to the city: the information displayed on how to get to the main city of Kos is very clear and the staff was eager to help out. We chose to rent a scooter and this was done very professionally and cheap through a partner of the hotel. The bus however was late by 40 minutes so not adviced.
Comfort: rooms got cleaned on the regular and if requested even more, well done to the cleaning staff for this. Side note that the water cooker in the room had mold in it, this could be an oversight. Also the hotel is littered with bugs because of all the nature surrounding the hotel this is acceptable, however there shouldn’t be ants inside our bed..
Rooms: they are okay but very standard, we had 2 different rooms to try out during our stay (shared pool and garden view) both are fine but not much else to say. The showers are warm and very enjoyable. tv has nothing on it unless you speak and read greek/german. The room has airco but malfunctions frequently going on and off by itself. Power went out for up to an hour multiple times meaning no lights or electricity to charge phone or air conditioning.
Other: the hotel let photographers in to take pictures of guests trying to go to dinner. This is fine if it happens once but they actually did it multiple times during our stay making it rather intrusive and bothersome if you just want to go eat + They try to sell you the pictures at breakfast the next day (25€ for 3 pictures)?? We shouldn’t be bothered 4 nights out of our 10 days. We pay to be left alone and enjoy our stay. Not to be bothered like tourists like they do in the city! Huge red flag in management for taking this partnership knowing it will be an annoyance to...
Read moreSomeone wrote the other day on a review for this place, that it has spoilt any future holidays to go anywhere else and I couldn't agree further!
This place is just amazing - will not even be looking for anywhere else in future - Blue Lagoon Ocean is going to be our sanctuary once a year, forever!
From the moment myself and my Mum arrived, we were given a very warm greeting by such lovely staff, very informative and very attentive. The lovely man, who took us on a buggy with our cases to our room, was chatty and just lovely.
Due to previous holidays elsewhere that have been very disappointing, mainly due to the conduct of other guests and the lack of management (if you look at my review of a hotel in Turkey last year - you will see what I mean) We had opted for a junior suite with private pool and sea view - and wow - it exceeded every expectation we had!!
Clean, spacious, incredible view and so peaceful - just what we asked for and needed.
Cleaners are fabulous - they always say hello and do a fabulous job of keeping the rooms clean and well stocked with toiletries and coffees/teas.
Reception staff and always on hand to help, polite and helpful - including the lovely lady from guest relations who helped book us on the trip to Zia which was a lovely trip and an experience to tick off the bucket list.
Bar staff are lovely and quick at making the drinks- fell in love with the coffee frappes! Never a queue either to get a drink, which was great.
Restaurants- clean, attentive staff and an amazing array of foods to cater for everyone. Didn't try the A La Carte as there was no need to - the 2 Restaurants served what we needed and the foods were always hot, freshly made and different choices every day. Every evening (apart from our last) there was a lovely young waiter that didn't even ask us in the end for our drinks order - he just came up once he saw us seated and served us our usual drinks - which was such a lovely touch - showing how attentive they are.
Evening dinner, you are always greeted by the managers which is a lovely touch.
I suppose what you can take from this - the staff in every department- are just so polite and accommodating and I cannot fault anything whatsoever.
The onsite shop is great for small provisions if you need them, without going out of the complex - yes it is slightly dearer, but you are paying a premium for it being on your doorstep - just like you overpay at the airports. The staff in this shop are also friendly, especially the girl in the shop, she was very polite and chatty with my Mum and myself, which was nice and we felt for her that other guest around were quite rude to her. Yes, it is true that there are no prices, but if you ask politely, they will ring it up on the till and tell you, then you have the choice if whether you want it or not.
There is an alternative to the onsite shop, if you walk out of the hotel and turn left, walk about 7 mins down the road, there is a lay by with a restaurant, shop and go kart place. The shop here is equally as friendly and is cheaper than the onside shop.
We had a spa treatment whilst on our stay, this was nice and easy to book with them or you can do via the app.
Everywhere in the hotel is spotlessly clean and although we didn't use the main pools, when we went past, there was always plenty of spaces and equally as quiet.
Overall, this was just the most idyllic holiday and it was so lovely to be staying in a place, where you are treated as adults and the guests act like adults! It has been so refreshing and we are gutted to be back home.
We will be re-booking for next year in and will be forever returning guests.
To everyone at Blue Lagoon Ocean - thank you and see...
Read moreRooms We originally booked the ‘basic’ room which was a a double room with garden view. When I say basic, no room in this hotel is basic. When we checked in, we were upgraded to a junior suite with garden view. The room was beautiful. Large and spacious enough for 2 people to live and move comfortably. We had the opportunity to look at the room we had originally booked and although a little smaller, all the amenities were the same, so please don’t worry yourself if you have booked this room, you will love it.
Due to Covid, the coffee machines and irons had been removed from all rooms. So my advice would be to take a small travel iron which is what we did. The coffee isn’t an issue as we had one with breakfast etc. Also, the rooms were not cleaned on a daily basis (this is explained upon check-in) but you can request a turn down service if its needed. If not, you will get a turn down service every other day.
In the rooms you’ll find a fridge, safe, climate control, dressing area, large cupboard storage and large double bed and TV. Just a pointer. The bed only has one pillow per person, but a quick phone call to reception and they bring extras for you.
The shower room was amazing. The nicest rain shower I have experienced whilst on holiday. I spent so long in there just stood under the water. You’ll love it!
The balcony was large enough for a table and chairs and the garden view was lovely. If you’re lucky enough you’ll see the local goat farmer letting his goats roam in the field behind.
We were so happy with our room, we couldn’t fault it. Not one thing was wrong with it and depending on where your room in, you might, like us get driven there in the hotel golf buggy, which added a little something different to the start of our holiday.
Hotel
The hotel is new, around 2 years old I think, and this is clear when you arrive. It’s very clean and modern. The hotel reception is the first thing you see and next to the reception is the on site shop - as you’d expect, the shop is a little pricier than local shops but for the convenience and choice, it didn’t matter.
Upon checking in, we were able to explore the grounds. There is a main bar by the pool offering all soft and alcoholic drinks. They offered a large range of cocktails and spirits wines and soft drinks. The pool side bar is open from 10am till 1am, however after midnight you do have to pay for your drinks, so I would order enough to last you that last hour.
The hotel has 2 large outdoor pools. Please note, these are not heated! But once you get in, you soon become accustomed to the temperature of the water. One thing I will note is that the pool side loungers tend to get busy, There are notices on them not to reserve them before 10am but we noticed that this was ignored by the sun worshippers. To us it wasn’t a problem as we are not really pool loungers, but the option to have a spare bed would’ve been nice. Again, not an issue, just an observation.
There are also rooms with private pools. We were lucky enough to stay above these rooms and although we didn’t have access to the pool, we did notice that the people who booked these rooms did not go to the main pool areas....
