Kipriotis Hippocrates Hotel
I would say that at some point when this hotel opened, it was classed as a 4 star hotel. After our stay, I would say it is most definitely NOT a 4 star hotel at all. It's not all bad, it's not all good either, but it was OK. Let's start with the good stuff. Staff were amazing, the ladies on reception couldn't help us more. Bar staff were fantastic. The food - I couldn't fault the food at all! Huge selection to choose from and all very tasty. Now, the not so good stuff. AC - for a hotel in a hot country, who advertise AC as part of what they offer, some serious work needs to be done on their system. When we first arrived, it was more like someone was blowing into the room, not cooling it down at all. I suffer with asthma, and on the first night I suffered an attack triggered by the heat, which made me very panicky. I spoke to reception staff and they sorted it, to an extent. It was better than it was, but it wasn't what AC is supposed to be. My travelling companions were not so lucky. They spoke to reception at least 4 times to sort out the AC, the best they got was a warm breeze that made the hot room even hotter. They tried sleeping with the door open and screen door closed, it didn't keep the mosquitoes out and they were bitten repeatedly. We were here in 30°+ heat, you would hope that you could have some respite away from it in your room? Drinks - the all inclusive drinks are pretty bog standard, 4 cocktails you can choose from, all from a box. House spirits, beer and wine. The "juice" that is on offer is enough to rot your teeth after one swig, it's super concentrated and so sweet. Bottled water, you have to pay extra for, you can have water from their dispenser, but it does have a very funny taste to it. Rooms - The rooms are very outdated and shabby looking, like some parts of the hotel, I'll get to that in a bit. Little boxes of heat that look like they need a good clean and updating. We had electrical sockets coming out of the wall, bathroom was drab and hotter than hell, the shower as you see from the pics was very basic. The beds, and I use the word beds very loosely, they are more like some kind of torture device. They are so hard that you wake up in the morning and crack like a glow stick! The pillows, you may as well be laying your head on cotton wool as you just sink into it, which then only adds to the heat! Misleading information - There are several things that are STILL advertised when you book and on their website that are simply not true. They advertise a mini market in the hotel, false, this is shut down. They advertise a club on the complex, false, it has shut down. They advertise Hippocrates as an adult only hotel, false, there are children here. This should not be allowed to happen as its false advertising and should be rectified at once to stop misleading guests about what really isn't there. The rest of the hotel was a weird combination of modern and dated. There were big empty stretches of wall that must have once housed some kind of display/artwork, but now just looking dull and dreary and a bit sad. The pool was OK, the sunbeds need replacing as some are broken, discoloured and generally not looking too good. The pool itself was OK, it's a bit green round the edges, but was very useful in cooling down. Only open from 10am til 6pm. Overall, we had a good holiday. We didn't spend all our time at the hotel as we had lots planned. The problem is, the hotel we got was not what was sold to us or what we paid for. We made the best of it, but deal breaker for me was the AC and the false advertising, it's not acceptable to mislead guests and make them sleep in rooms that DO NOT have a functioning AC system. If you want to stay in a 3 star hotel, then this is the place for you. But I would say, pay a little extra, go somewhere else and avoid...
Read moreHaving read a lot of the reviews we were a bit concerned before our holiday.|We needn't have worried, we were very happy with everything and especially at £1,250 for 2 of us for 7 nights and where £360 of the cost were the flights. This means it was only £445 per person for 7 nights accommodation, all you can eat breakfast, lunch and dinner. All local drinks, rolls and salads in a fridge and ice creams in the afternoon, as well as daytime and evening entertainment. Rooms are cleaned everyday and there is someone on reception 24 hours a day. |Yes, if you want to, you can pick at things as other people have done and take close ups of tiles and showers etc, but I am sure that this could be done at these peoples homes! If these kind of things offend you then don't book this place and pay 3 times the amount or more for your stay.|If on the other hand you are looking for great value, great staff, good food and lovely staff and guests then come here.|Our room was good, it was clean and comfy, 239 second floor looking away from the sea. Bed was firm which we prefer, but some other guests did complain about, storage was plenty for us and whilst the shower did have a curtain it didn't stick to us so was not a problem.|Food was great, we did also eat out but this we had planned in advance, we wanted a base so we could go out every day, as a result we did not have lunch at the hotel, but other guest said it was great and plenty of choice. The evening meals we split between the hotel and restaurants in Kos Old Town. What we did eat in the hotel was great. If you want an english breakfast with bacon and sausages as we have them, you will be disappointed as the bacon was more like ham and sausages mini continental type. There is plenty of other things to choose from as you would usually expect including cold meats cheeses, cereals and cakes alongside a choice of breads.|We didn't experience much of the entertainment as we were out quite a lot, but others there were all very happy. There was water polo and darts that we did see in the day, the evenings had bingo, a music quiz, movie quiz and karaoke with some music after, this was from 9.30 to 11pm. The bar shuts at 1am but charges for the last hour. The only small annoyance was that this hotel had disposable plastic cups all the time including the evenings, this was overcome by taking a glass with you after dinner. However the other hotels of the same brand that we went to had glasses for their drinks. Also, you can use the other same brand hotels but the All Inclusive does not apply which was a shame.|The AI drinks are local as you would expect but branded drinks were available if you want them but you do have to pay, again, at this price what was on offer was more than acceptable.|All the staff were friendly and helpful, be sure to say hello.|A walk to Kos town marina where all the day boats are is about 45 mins to an hour walk, or you can use the pay as you go electric scooters with an app, this will be about 5-6 euros. There is a bus where they leave from across the road, in the mornings they are quite frequent, after about 11ish they go to about 1 an hour. A pushbike can be rented for 5 euros a day, rental can be arranged via the hotel and the rental company is just to the right of the hotel as you look at it from the front. You can also rent scooters cars, beach buggies from here.|We did not use the beach so cannot comment on this, we did go over there and the beds and covers are a bit dated, but what do people expect for free, there is a choice to go further up the beach and pay for nicer beds and umbrellas in a variety of places.|Would we go back?|Yes, for us this was perfect, at this price you do not feel that you have to stay at the hotel all day everyday to get your...
Read moreI would've given three stars, just like I would describe the standard of the hotel (four stars are not the same four stars in all countries), but unfortunately so many bad things happened that in the end I decided to give only two.
Let's start with the positive things:
The selection of food is good. What i liked most is that there was a vast variety of vegetables and salads and also non-diary milk, which is great for everyone who cares about their health The interior of the hotel is quite modern. The staff at the reception was nice
And now the negative things:
Some staff members, especially working in the buffet restaurant and the pool bar, were really unfriendly and gave us the feeling taht we are intruders By far the worst thing was the entertainment team, who made our stay turn into a nightmare. We are not the type of people who want to be entertained and I think that's not a crime. We always smiled and replied kindly that we were not interested in the activities that were proposed to us by the entertainment team members. Unfortunately they never accepted a polite "No, thank you" but instead became really insistent and annoying and in the end they were really angry at us, that we did not want to be entertained. We were told at some point that we were "those unfriendly people who rather play cards then watch the show." We tried to explain to them that we don't mean it personally, we just want to relax and calm down from our busy jobs. But they still took it personally and treated us really badly for the rest of our stay. I think this team needs training in social skills. One day we ate in one of the other restaurants. We ordered a bottle of wine and the waiter brought it after almost 30 minutes. We went to get something from the buffet and I saw that the waiter was putting glasses on the table. When we got to the table there were only 3 glasses instead of 4, so I asked if he could bring another since we were 4 people. His answer was that someone moust have stolen the glass from our table and that in his opinion it had to be a jewish person, cause they always misbehave. Seriously, I am not making this up. The waiter was an anti-semite and did not even hide it. We were shocked. The pool lady/lifeguard was incredibly disrespectful and unfriendly. Every time she passed by to pick up glasses she didn't want to believe that we had none, stood their and suspiciously investigated the area we werre sitting at. Every single time, which was every 30 minutes. She also didn't refrain from picking up personal belonging although they were not in her way. You can see that she has never been properly trained, cause for sure she is not allowed to randomly touch other people's stuff. The cleaning ladies are super loud and start shouting at each other in the morning, waking up everybody. Also they are not cleaning properly. There was hair in the bath tub when we arrived and we overheard other people talking about excrements being in the toilet upon their arrival.
If we wouldn't have rented a car for two days and spent the days entierely outside of the hotel, this would've been the worst holiday of our lives and we would've thought that Kos is not worth visiting. Fortunately we took the car and discovered the beautiful island and met great people, so we'll definitely come back, but not to this...
