Filoxenia Aparments & Studios — Hotel in Municipality of North Kynouria

As there wasn't any reports on this property, i thought i would write one to say thank you to the owners and other people who made our holiday a wonderful time.||We flew into Kalamata after a 3hr flight from Manchester with Thomas cook airlines though we booked the trip through Manos, No delays so off to a good start. Maybe the transfer time from Kalamata puts people off going to Paralio Astros 2hrs 30mins, so it is a long day traveling and on 1st impressions on arrival it's not impressive, probably because your tired. ||A nice greeting from the Owners and shown to your apartment straight away, we were allocated the ground floor room 6 which again i would of not normaly prefered , but entering found a nice size studio and very clean, very modern shower room and again very clean. the usuall facilities for greek studios fridge, 2 electric rings for cooking, small electric oven and a sink. king size bed and plenty of storage space for 2 people. a large balcony with wooden furniture (not that tacky white plastic table and chairs) which overlooked the gardens and the road which runs through the village. there are studios which overlook the farm fields on the rear of the property which i imagine would be quieter than ours, though the niose wasn't exessive. the studios are located towards the rear of the village but you are only 2 mins from shops and tavernas. there are 2 beaches on either side, the nearest being Astygaros 5 min walk and the town barch 7mins walk. we used the town beach as there were more facilties in this area. After reading previous reports on other review sites it gave you the impression that it would be a small place with not many bars and tavernas but the resort is is only 2hrs from Athens so attracts lots of visitors from there so there is plenty of eating and drinking establishments but not your usual English fare which again thats way we chose to go to this resort. Manos only send around 20 guests to Paralio so you dont come across many English tourist which in our case we prefered, not to everyones taste i know but if know about it before you book your trip it won't be suprise to you.||i have to mention the Manos tour representive Maggie she was brilliant though no excursions are offered due to the amount of guests so take this into account if like to get about and can't / won't drive abroad. there is car hire in the resort which is very reesonable, 30 Euros a day, cheaper the longer you hire.||Our favorite restaurant was To Mouragio in the square where we were made very welcome by the owner George and his merry band of heplers, Nikitas and Dimitrious just to name a couple. George gave us a gift of wine and olives on our last night which was nice. ||We visited the ancient sites of Epidavrus and ancient Mycenae which both are worth visisting along with Nafplion which was the ancient Capital of greece. You can also find lots of beautiful villages along the coast to visit have swim and a drink.||So to the finish we really enjoyed our visit to this part of Greece and made some good friends whilst we were there, so if you would like to visit th real Greece try...

My comments are solely based on my holiday and experience at this particular resort and if id have read someones experience like mine then i would have probably reconsidered staying at the Irini Filoxenia as far as accomodation goes. If you want air conditioning in your appartment book the one bedroomed rooms, the two bedroomed don't have this luxury and in July you do very much need it especially at night if you want a comfortable nights sleep and you dont find this out till you get there :( you may benefit from a second balcony in the 2 bedroom app'ments but the vile smell of drainage overlooking the rear of the app'ments is overwhelming and as the day becomes hotter so does the smell, not pleasent at all. The rooms had what appeared to be pipes sticking out of the floors in the bedrooms and holes where sockets looked to have once been. If you like a peacefull nights sleep invest in taking some earplugs, the greek owners on the bottom floor stayed up till early hours and aswell as the local dog/s barking also watch for them following you around in the hope you'll feed them, cicada's (noisy insects) which seemed to shut up by a particular time and the cockeral that was'nt sure when to crow! our Freezer part of the fridge didnt work, we had no plug in our bath to bathe, utensils to say it was self catering was very limited as were the mini markets, dont expect them to have the choice as in the UK, my advice take things you like in your case ESPECIALLY tea bags if you like your cups of tea. Apart from these things i experienced, it was a lovely place, cant grumble at the beachs, people (some a little ignorant, tends to be the older generation) Maggie the Rep, not a bad word to say about her, very picturesque place, VERY greek in July but we knew this before we went, thought i'd miss the internet while on holiday but there was even a internet cafe, learning a little of the greek lingo will get you far too.
